I would have guessed this frame to be solidly in the 8 speed era, thus the shifters it came with are appropriate but I'm probably wrong. Stunning frameset; I'll be pleased to watch it progress. Love me some fillet braze!

It feels like a pencil eraser is the best I can describe it. Not sure about durability as I’ve not ridden the saddle. Definitely a fair trade between saving a vintage saddle to binning it in my opinion. Simple and not costly so no big loss if it doesn’t work out.

Here’s what I got
So the bike came as a frame, two wheels and a box of parts. I’ve managed to find a bit of time to clean them somewhat and assemble the bike in a temporary fashion to see what it looked like built up. My first thoughts were how nice the V Brakes look and function. Titanium seat, seat post and brakes post bolts are a nice bonus. Front tire was torn on the sidewall and has been trashed. The bad, that fork! Looks horrible on this bike as some had suggested it might. Needless to say the finished product likely won’t resemble what’s here now but nice to see regardless.

I had a Manitou 3 for many years and always thought it looked really nice. All that machining and anodizing really made it look sweet. I kept it mostly because it was so nice. Too bad it was such a bad fork. Maybe you could find an Englund air cartridge for it; that might wake it up, anyway... Bike looks great!

Little progress
Well i managed to find a proper fork for the bike but it needed some work. Think it going to be just perfect when done. Fresh fork decals on the way.

As it were
So I decided to assemble some parts and do a fit up. With this headset the steerer is 1/4” -3/8”short and with the logic crankset the 111mm bottom bracket axle is likely 10mm short. Any help or suggestions at this point would be appreciated. I will definitely need a new bottom bracket and am unsure if a change of headset will help or not.

Thanks for the feedback, the fork I sourced is a Tange for off a Ritchey framed bike is all I know. I managed to get it for $40 it’s not likely that I’ll find an original brazed fork but as I continue to look this will do nicely. I have fork decals on order from Velocals. That should arrive in a week or two. Next hurdle is the 1” Ritchey Logic threaded headset seems to be a bit of a hens tooth. Nothing easy on this one. I believe I’m close to closing on the purchase a cannondale M2000 with XT and full Ritchey components that would gonon this build. Fingers crossed .

Not that know but seems like the inner part should go down past all the threads, have complete penetration and then might still be be too stiff/brittle to last?
Love this whole project and totally share your pain, the big chrome Ritchey has a big funky non original unibrow that I can't stand, try finding a 1" threaded 230mm steerer, lugged or just plain crowned fork with out spending $500.
If this extension works, I may be very interested in trying to get one. I've spent a lot of time, digging, begging, futzing and flailing on this, Soma couldn't even tell me the wall thickness of their 1" threadless fork so I could find out if threads could be cut in it.

The plan is to cut the steerer and tig welding it in place. It be done low enough not to affect the quill stem insertion. That’s the plan any way.
