I was lucky to see XTC around 1981 or so, the middle act before The Police, with Oingo Boingo as the opening act. Possibly the best concert I've attended in terms of musicianship. Alas, that was the tour that contributed to Andy Partridge's anxiety and stage fright. But bless 'em for hanging in there for that tour and putting on a great show.

Tunes
Here`s a couple of old MOTOWN tunes that have stuck in my head lately. You`d have to over 65 and Soul Music fan to know them. The song "Jealous" came out in 72` when I was working in a cemetery for the summer. Cutting grass in the blazing sun 8 hours a day. I was going with a girl that I was Crazy about. But, we were both fairly young and she wanted to go out with her friends too. That led to arguments, and she said I was too jealous. Well I rode my old 10 speed Murray to work everyday The cemetery was up on hill, so going home I`d pick up a head of steam going down the hill, because the rest of the miles home was up hill. The song "Jealous" was in my head back then, and I`d sing it out load while cutting grass and on my bike going down that hill after work. Well fast forward almost 5 decades and that cemetery is now part of one of my ride routes. Along with 3 parks. I still ride down that hill , and I find myself sing the song "Jealous" and thinking about that girl. Who is now a Grandma I`m sure. The second song is just one I`ve always liked.

After stuck in the middle was recorded Gerry left the band and never toured with stealers wheel in support of that hit so the band had to find another singer.
Interesting to me is how much he sounds like John Lennon on that song and certain words he pronounces oddly on his hit right down the line.
Baker street song reminds me of the song running on empty by Jackson brown because of the same time period. Which reminds me of being in a grocery store waiting on a girl i was dating to cash her check with running on empty playing on the intercom. She was 18 and I was 15 and I'm standing there and she looks at my face which is all marked up and asked what happened. I said oh it's just from sparring. She said " I thought you were better than that" and before I could reply with my witty comeback of you should have seen the other guy, the cashier says NEXT. I spent the rest of the day trying to explain unlike the movies, when when you spar you get hit.
Weird how music provokes memory more than just about anything....well maybe scent too.

City to City always evokes memories of bicycling around Washington DC and surroundings. That's where I was stationed in '78 for almost a year. My first serious experience with urban bicycle commuting. Learned pretty quickly the hard way what works and doesn't work, after getting hit twice by cars -- fortunately slow speed, no injury or damage.
That's also where I got my first proper toe clips and Detto Pietro shoes. I got interested in crit racing and needed to at least look the part, even if I was riding a 30 lb hi-ten steel entry level Motobecane.
Never wanted to go back to old school foot retention. Unless the fit is perfect it's a recipe for ergonomic nightmares. Clipless with float is much better, especially for aging joints.

I'm 63, it depends on my mood. Zeppelins "Boogie with Stu," Deep Purple "Lazy", Aerosmiths "Big Ten Inch", Stones, Seager, on and on. By the pool/grill lately it's Pandora on Van Morrison that plays a good selection of similar artists and Beach Music that gets me shag music. Then there's Southern Rock and Motown and even Zydaco. Again, it depends on the mood and company.

Anybody excited about the new Sparks release? Their last, Hippopotamus, was delightful! I've been deep-diving their discography deliberately dodging dodgy ditties.

We've got Sonos wireless speakers around the house and they go out on the deck with us, like last night. My wife has subscriptions to Apple music and some others and we pretty much have an infinite playlist. We listen to rock, reggae (last night's choice), country, and classical. Last summer we visited Reds Rocks in Denver for the first time to see the Tedeschi-Trucks Band. We were so stoked to be there and hear the music. But alas, the sound system they're using sucks. It was a disappointing, very expensive experience. We'll never go back. Later in the summer Sting played at Kit Carson Park in Taos and the sound there was fine. I think that Red Rocks makes their money on EDM (electronic dance music) and it blows out the sound system. It also irritates neighbors for miles around the venue. Our sound system at home is great and the only neighbors nearby are grazing in the pasture behind us.

It doesn’t get much older than Bach and who better to play it than Gould. Art of the Fugue.
My other love is Lady Gaga - Edge of Glory.

For some reason, the old song "King of the Road" has been percolating through my head. I guess it's because I too am a Man of Means, by no means...
I have a list of songs in my "watch later" youtube playlist, but they're mostly anime music or movie scores. (There is no music more relaxing than the music OST from the relaxing anime series "YuruCamp" ) I think the one actual song that is a song type song, is the cover of The Sound of Silence by Disturbed.

You know that's a Simon and Garfunkel song, right? Powerful version, though.
When I think of Disturbed, I think of Down With the Sickness.

As a thought experiment, try to imagine either Simon or Garfunkel with all those piercings...

During the 1980’s and 90’s, I played bass in a couple of hard-rock and metal bands, these days I play and sing in a classic rock and blues band, and I also listen to jazz and funk. So I pretty much like most if not all of the music you’ve all been listing here. I love music just about as much as I love cycling. Music and cycling are both good for feeding the soul.

There's a lot of young kids doing covers of the oldies, or at least the 60's/70's stuff. "Oldies" was what WCBS radio, 101.1 FM in NYC - I.E. Cousin Brucie, would play and it was all 50's and early 60's. Then at some point it became 60's-70's, now it's 90's.
Some of the covers are people like Josh Turner, Reina Del Cid, Pig Pen Theater Co., and assorted friends. Great stuff. All on YT now,

Damn, when I saw the thread title, the first thing that came to mind was Rock Around The Clock and Jail House Rock. I remember when Baker Street was released, and my having to ask several friends on what the song's name was.
Years later, the Foo Fighters did a worthy rendition of Baker Street.

I'm mostly a fan of classical, some flamenco and here ant there more popular music. The first link is to something by Handel I just recently learned of.
The next link is to a piece on the popular end of the scale. I don't know what genre it fits into. Some where between country and rock. I like the music but especially like the chemistry between the performers. They clearly are having a great time.
The guitarist is very good with numerous you tube videos.
