Flip stem

Maybe dumb question: I have a fizik, 90mm, 7 degree rise stem. Instead, I'd like no rise. Can I just flip it?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can do this with a threadless stem. In fact, they'll frequently be sold as +/- (degrees of deviation from the right angle with the steerer).

Make sure your front wheel is supported when you try, because the threadless stem is what keeps the fork on the bike. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to read up on how to adjust bike fit. Small changes in where your contact points are can make a huge difference in your comfort and performance on the bicycle.

For sure. I've been fitted and want to replicate it.

Thank you!

A flipped 7 degree stem probably won't get you to zero rise. It will be closer, but the stem will not quite be parallel not to the ground.

Traditional road stems were 17 degrees to get to zero rise. Decades ago that was the standard and it placed the stem parallel to the ground/top tube. It has to do with a head tube angle that was around 73 degrees. Using a 17 degree got it back to parallel.

Thanks!!!
Yes, close should be good enough. Got a (used) new ride and the rise doesn't feel right.

Flipping your 90mm (7*) stem down will drop it about 20mm and lengthen the reach by about 6mm. Go here to check it out.

Just make certain you understand how threadless headsets work and how to adjust them. You'll stand a decent chance of making your headset bearings too loose or too tight if you only think you are undoing the stem.
