Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So, using you as an example, how many rides per week do you take? I'm trying to get a sense of how often riders rotate? Some may one do laundry once a week. There's a guy at my gym that wears the same shirt 4-5 times a week. During cycling season, the same kit 4-5 days in a row. In fact, I've only seen him in one cycling outfit for about 3 years now. The dude's not poor either.

I have a healthy dose of Pactimo stuff in my closet (standard stuff, not team custom). I like the fit of their Summit "Aero" jersey a lot. The bibs are decent, but nothing special. I really like the vest, jacket, and LS thermal jersey.

My team/club uses Voler. It's okay, but there's always some little thing that isn't quite right. On our newest jersey, the top of the pockets is just a little too high, and getting into the pocket while riding ends up pulling on it quite hard, and the jersey is ripping at the top corners of each pocket. On many other manufacturers, there's additional reinforcement at these points. Voler does not. have that reinforcement.

Too many. I went on a bike clothing binge for a while. That said, I like having options.

Also, there's different jerseys in my rotation at different times of year, depending on the weather. Recently, my two LS thermal jerseys have been getting a lot of use. That's going to come to a stop (immediately, it appears). My lighter-weight, well-ventilated jerseys will get some play time.

About half a dozen. I ride at least 5 times a week and wash them all together when I run out. The quality stuff lasts for years in this rotation, with little sign of wear and tear. Right now I could do with refreshing my stock of cycling socks as some are about 4 years old. My bibs and jerseys are all fine. The oldest are about 5 years and the newest about 2 years old.

Not going to count, but I've got at least:
12x pair of bibshorts
4x pair of bibtights/bibknickers
25+ short-sleeve jerseys
8+ long-sleeve jerseys
3-4 jackets of various thicknesses and levels of water-resistance, several vests, etc.
Many baselayers, socks, caps, etc.

Generally riding 8,000+ miles per year in all sorts of weather -- temps from 35 to 100+ fahrenheit.

All of that is in active rotation during the different seasons?

Yeah, most of it. Probably a few of the older jerseys don't see much use anymore -- especially the SS jerseys, since I have so many of those. I sometimes give them away to friends who have less kit.

4-5 rides per week depending on weather + I use older bibs for Zwifting.

I also use my bibs and jerseys 2-3x before washing them unless it's a long ride on a hot day. I don't normally wear the same kit 2 rides in a row, but it happens.

Did they change it again this year? I liked the Summit Aero from 2 years ago- the PAC aero jersey I got last year seemed cut funny

No, to do that he has to use the magic word, "triggered."

"Offended" means everyone else much gang up and demean the offendee, but is nowhere near as serious as "triggered."

phrantic09 Eric F yeah, it's the summit aero stuff. Nice as far as generic kit goes, or at least not too crappy. And yeah it is different again - it's gotten a bit smaller the last two seasons I think. I still do S jersey and M bibs, S one-piece race suit, XS skinsuit (time trialing only)

I'm a bit thicker than you (mostly wide shoulders). Pactimo's XL "Aero" cut gives me the fit I want. I got mine within the last year, so I guess it's the newer pattern. I like the feel of the fabric on Le Col jerseys best (of the stuff I have), but they're a bit too long, leaving a bunched up bit around my waist. La Passione is right there with Pactimo for preferred fit on my body. NeoPro is close behind.

i've notice less if any material shrinkage with better reputable brands.

I tend to do the "light" test with older attire... If you can easily see light bleeding thru, it's time to toss it.

Most cycling apparel is made of spandex, which does not shrink.

Really? Buy what you like (fit & fashion), at the price you're comfortable with, for the reasons which make sense for you.
and, sometimes you get better than what you expected and sometimes worse...
more reasons under the sun for what people wear or do...
not pleasing to you, look somewhere else, you'll have a much better day.
now to take this down to 'Ground Zero'
someone thought this was 'excellent', I didn't even know this existed, until today... learn something new every day... and then, maybe not.... LOL!

oh boy...

Yet another advantage of wool. When you claim your wool jersey shrunk, it's entirely plausible.

That opens another can of worms; which is faster, sans serif (less weight) or italics (more aerodynamic)?

my riding has been cut way back but when i was doing a steady 500 miles a month, for a couple years, i had three pairs of shorts (the rapha ones with mesh pockets), 4-5 short sleeve technical shirts, 4-5 long sleeve, an one lightweight jacket. rotate the shirts, wash in a batch every three weeks or so, wash the shorts by hand in the sink after each ride and hang to dry. there would always be a clean dry pair. no items showed any meaningful wear after 10,000 + miles on the system, so even at $100/shorts and $50/shirt the life cycle cost of the system was trending towards perhaps twenty cents a day.
