What is this Campy part? 1960's Cinelli rebuild

I picked up a mid 1960's Cinelli Speciale Corsa last week off of craigslist. The bike is in solid condition, hasn't been ridden in 25 or so years, very slight rust on one spot of the frame, but overall she's in good condition. Unfortunately the frame has been repainted at some point, but all of the chrome was thankfully untouched

The previous owner had replaced most of the original Campy parts when he picked it up 30 years ago, but he thankfully kept all of the them. The only Campy part I can't figure out is seen in the attached images. My only guess is that it's for a bike pump, but the 4 leaf clover bit has me stumped. Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks!

That is a pump umbrella which you affix to the seat tube at a height determined by the length of your given frame pump.

I agree! And we all know that it wasn't about that insignificant part, but that lovely and fortunate Cinelli score of yours. Repainted or not, it's a Cinelli! Pictures please! :-) Congratulations!

Get an old Silca frame pump , used or new off of eBay for it. Probably cost you between $50 to $90. It'll look great on your bike, plus if you need it, you'll have a pump with you.

Here's one on my bike;

Silcas are pretty; or you could get a pump that actually works like a zefal HP if you want a vintage pump to go with your vintage bike.

Seriously though, please don't put a pump on your Cinelli. Maybe for a pic moment, like Ed's F.Gardin, but the vibrations of riding will damage the paint on the familiar spot above the BB shell, where the seat- and downtube meet. If the damage is already there, it will just make it worse...

Here you go: Old style Silca pump before the "Framefit" version.

Well that answers that! Thanks all.

Here are some additional pictures of the bike. I took most of it apart a few nights ago in preparation for some new paint. I discovered the rear axle pin had sheared off, but other than that everything just needs a good cleaning and fresh grease, it's honestly amazing how well the parts have held up over the last 5 decades.

Let me know if you want to see any of the specific parts a bit more. Cheers!

Cable guides and shifter bosses added later I presume. That could be fixed I guess.

I hate those kind of cable guides all they do is cause rust.

Yeah I'll be removing the cable guides and shifter bosses, CAREFULLY.

They do indeed cause rust, the only major rust point on the frame is right on top of a cable guide.

I wonder why they painted half the seat-lug during the repaint? I suspect a repair to one of the stays.

Regardless of the modifications. Nice bike! My size...

How did you date the bike? I also would like to see photos of the original parts.

I'm guessing the half painted seat-lug is because of lazy painters. Take a frame to someone that doesn't do detail work and they'll recommend shortcuts. There is a slight possibility that is the way the original paint was (see pictures at https://bit.ly/19dGZSH) But I'm going to find out, I'm having the paint stripped to see exactly what I'm dealing with chrome/body wise.

I have yet to confirm the exact date of the bike. I know it's pre 1968 due to the lack of the triple dots (triple dots started appearing on some frames in 1968: https://www.velo-retro.com/cinellitline.html). The closest I've found visually to my bike is this: https://bit.ly/19dGZSH. Everything in those photos are nearly identical to what I'm seeing on my frame, including the details of the campy parts.

My serial number on the frame is #3731 . The closest thing I've found to that number is listed as a 1960s frame on https://www.cinelliregistry.org (#3791). Also notice #3536 and #3874 listed as 1968 on that site. I know serial numbers don't mean much for Cinelli's, but they at least give a rough idea of age.

Here's how the seat lug was painted originally:

This is a late 60's frame as well.

Very cool, so that is sorta how the lug was painted.

The pedals, derailleurs, and possibly the stem (unless you removed the hex nut from the back and it is not pictured) are definitely not original for 1968. The pedals would have strap loops and the FD would not have the protrusion where the main pivot post is attached. The rear derailleur is obvious. Do the levers have circular holes under the blade to insert the cable or is it a U cut-out? Did it come with brake calipers? I think in '68 they may have been non logo for campy. The headset appears to have the rounded profile to the bottom of the crown race so it appears to be approximately correct.
