Injury recovery. How's your recovery coming along?
As many of you know, I had a very serious wreck(hit by a truck), but things are going well for me now. I'm still slow, and my HR is way too high for my power output, but I feel good. No pain due to the injuries.

I've been off the bicycle over a month now but not because of an injury.
Cold >> Bronchitis >> Allergic reaction to first antibiotic >> Allergic reaction to second antibiotic ...
However it looks like the third antibiotic is the charm and there's hope I might get onto my bicycle before the end of June.

I'm actually riding with a broken leg. I snapped my tibia hiking 6 months ago and have a titanium rod inside my bones to keep aligned. Last xray showed 1/3 of it healed. Figures I would break the hardest bone in the human body to heal.

Gnarly. I'm also trying to imagine riding with a broken leg. That sounds terrible. Although that may be because I am surrounded by hills.
I'm trying to shake a pinched nerve in my neck. Such a small annoying thing, yet so debilitating.

I'm recovering from two broken ribs, two compression fractures in my lumbar spine, and a partially torn right MCL/PCL/meniscus.
Am walking two miles+ per day around my neighborhood wearing a back brace and with an immobilized leg. I am not sure when I'll be able to swing a leg over a bike again, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to spin easily in an upgright position yet this month depending on when my knee is allowed some motion.

Broke both radii, left elbow and left clavicle back on 3/23. Just put in a 17 hour base week, my first real week outside though on the mtn bike to help absorb vibrations. Everything is pretty well healed except my left wrist is still tight with noticeable lack of full range of movement. It is coming along though with persistent PT.

I broke my acromium bone in my shoulder last Oct. resulting in surgery involving removal and and reattachment of my right deltoid muscle. After 4 months of PT and lots of stretching, I'm pretty much back to normal. I just completed a ride from Alabama to New York without issues. I have a slight loss of range of motion, but most of my strength is back.

Broke my femur a while back. Two titanium nails. Took my first ride outside today - 20 miles. Felt great, except for complete lack of power. The good thing is that I keep going right direction. Hopefully in a couple of months my power will come back.

No pain at the break? My leg used to hurt over every bump. It felt like a Charlie horse for a few weeks. How long ago was the injury?

Healing is a lot like springtime, and also a lot like getting better after you've been really sick. It feels so good to be feeling better that it help erase the misery of being sick! Plus, you can ride the "feeling better!" wave like a big dog.... It's actually a pretty great energy; it's just very unfortunate that it requires winter/injury/illness to really appreciate it.
Glad you are feeling better, and to be in no pain is awesome and bodes most excellently for the future.
I can say that 2.5 years post brain contusion I can now do "fast" things (skiing, fast bike descents, etc) without the sensory input stream blurring out due to overload. This feels like spring, like healing, like riding a wave, and I like it.

I haven't felt pain at the break for about a month. However, near the end of the ride I felt an odd muscle pain - not soreness or pain from use - at the point where one of the nails went into my leg. I'm afraid this pain is from the nail slightly extending out of the bone. My doctor has warned me that he may have to go in after a year and remove the nails if I have problems on the bike with muscles "rubbing" the ends of the nails. Good thing is that surgery (if necessary) shouldn't take any recovery time other than time to heal the incisions.

I broke my right humerus July 2012. It was not at all funny!! I didn't see the lip on a driveway entrance at 18mph. Flipped over the handlebars and landed elbow first on cement. 5 days in the trauma unit, 24 screws and 3 plates. Started riding again at 9 months. One year I had a goal to do a century, made 80. Still need pain meds to ride but worth it. Best of luck to all who ride through it.

18 months later -- after knee surgery to repair my meniscus and a whole lot of physical therapy to break up adhesions in my back I am finally making some progress. I tried to get going in fits and starts for over a year, but my back wouldn't handle the strain without going into constant spasm. I was able to ride outside some this year but was unable to hang with my compadres. I'm still not psychologically there yet either -- cars approaching from behind cause me anxiety, probably in part because in order to keep with the group I was always physically on the limit.
My IT bands would kill me after riding, especially in the injured leg. I'd even get sharp pains in the right IT band when driving around certain corners. I took it very easy for three weeks in September, and the pain got worse in my legs so I decided that the time was right to hunker down for the winter and see if I can get back into some kind of form. I've completed the TrainerRoad mid-volume Base I plan, and am almost done with Base II. Some days it's a real effort (especially after a blood donation ) but the structured training seems to be providing the right development and challenge. The pains in my legs are lessening and being replaced by the good muscle aches from a thorough workout. Through the rest of the winter I plan to do the TR Mid-Volume Base III, High Volume Build, and then Climbing Road Race specialization plans. I am hoping that puts me on the road in April/May in the best spring form of my life.

In December I figured that I had better get my act together and start getting into shape again, so I started trying to exercise some more and did lose a couple kg.
Early December, I went for an ultrasound and some other testing because of some of the issues I was having. I was called in for an urgent appointment with a specialist on Dec 23 ... and I was in surgery on Jan 12. A week later I was in surgery again for another unrelated issue. But both were possible cancer situations.
I hit the highest weight I've ever been while I was recovering from those surgeries ... and it really didn't help being inactive for a month right in the middle of summer like that!!
Fortunately, one situation was declared "all clear" ... the other I need to go back every 6 months for follow-up testing. It is still a concern.
Nevertheless, mid-Feb, I joined MyFitnessPal and started focusing on diet and exercise.
I rode those Oct/Nov 100Ks again, and knocked about half an hour off my time. Plus they were easier than last year. I've also cycled a couple centuries (100 miles). And I'm climbing everything in sight around here. I still don't like climbing, I still struggle climbing, but it is a whole lot easier than it used to be.
And I've lost 25 kg (55 lbs) since mid-Feb.

Just realized this thread started right before I would end up in the hospital for a week. Multiple fractures, wheelchair, crutches, etc.
Happened at the peak of fitness, and it's taken a year to come back.
Back pain still limits total weekly mileage. I've had Chiro, PT, massage, you name it. Finally found that heavy weights in the gym are actually doing more good than all that.

Broken clavicle 8 weeks ago this Friday. I've started the medium distance base plan on Traineroad, two weeks in. Yesterday's checkup cleared me to start swimming, I'll do that on Friday. Getting a new helmet today, Giro Synthe. I'm pretty sure I'm going outside for a ride on Saturday.
The clavicle and resultant surgery and plate are going fairly well. Most of my problem is either tightness in the bicep causing clicking in my shoulder or there's simply new damage to the shoulder as a result of the fall.
All told, I'm doing well, have lost endurance, gained weight, fell like I'm starting over from scratch.

I've posted a little about this in the Weekend Ride Reports, but at the beginning of last month I got broadsided by another cyclist coming around a blind curve on a MUP in a park. She was on a heavy cruiser bike and on the wrong side of the path. My bike, now repaired, cost $300 to fix and my left leg got banged up. Had trouble walking for a few days and just started riding again last weekend. No broken bones, but it is still a bit swollen and the bottom of my foot hurts. The lady was unhurt and rode away on her tank.

Hit by SUV back in August. Back riding, but fat and slow as a result. Typically use some Ibu and Tyl to get me past 30mi. still.
