Bob's Annual North Bend Vintage Ride, Show and backyard BBQ July 29

@john903 asked about this on another thread. Bob Freeman just emailed me this and gave his ok to post on BF. He's going to post on the CR list as well.

I've done this show at my house the last several years, though we skipped 2020. We have an optional, easy 20-mile or so ride in the morning, then park the bikes in the back yard and ogle them while dead animals get seared on the grill. Lots of good fresh local beer gets consumed, lots of pictures are taken, many good stories and a few lies are told, but no judging and no trophies are handed out. It's just a show but it's a good one. Some of the finest bikes on the planet. Take a look at pics from last year's event.

Vintage Weekend July 23-24 2022 | Flickr

Many out of towners come. There are some clean and cheap fleabag motels in town, or you can sleep on the lawn if you've a mind. Last year we had participants from Oregon, California, and British Columbia. There's no cost, but bring your favorite critter to roast on the grill. I provide beer, soft drinks, sides, and snacks. There's never a lack of food. Bring all the bikes you can fit in your vehicle. We've never run out of room. Usually around 100 bikes and 40 people show up. You can park in the driveway, or on the street, or in the neighborhood. My collection is open for viewing, and if you want to take a bike home, well let's talk. I have a few extras. Selling stuff is OK though it's not much of a swap meet because everyone who comes already has a lot of bikes. A few bikes have changed hands in the past though.

So, Saturday July 29. Ride goes off at 9, back by 11. Food at noon. I hope you can make it!

If anyone is hanging around, we can do a bit more adventurous ride on the Sunday. Lots of great terrain and beautiful scenery to choose from here. This place ought to be a National Park.

I'm looking forward to it, the weather should be just about perfect.

Bring swim shorts and a towel and I'll lead a ride up to Rattlesnake Lake for a swim.

Bob's Bike Show

Wish I could be there. Please take lots of pictures! This pic was during my last attendance I think in 2018? Hard to believe it has been that long?

what year did Bob relocate from Winslow to "Twin Peaks"?

visited him in September of '00 or 01 and received a wonderful giro of the collection

we had a discussion regarding Trev Jarvis of TJ Cycles; Bob had ordered a "Gate" which we looked at together

then he drove us over to Kingston in one of his restored VW's to meet Jeff Groman and see his collection

wonderful visit!

I think I'm going to try to make it out in time for the ride in the morning, in spite of not really riding any all year. Gives me an excuse to get something old out for a ride, just have to decide which.

I'm going to try to make it tomorrow, have a number of things to take care of here at home, but if I can get all that done tonight, then tomorrow morning is open!

Hope to meet several of you guys and enjoy the ride at 9! I don't know that I have a bike worthy of the lawn, but I'll at least bring one for the ride.

Looks to be a great event, with many of the usual suspects present. Really wanted to do this but it was too close to Cino and the logistics of going to both Cino and this just wasn't going to work out with the three of us traveling together. Sounds like they might move the Cino date in the future so perhaps this would be doable as a separate trip sometime.

Sorry most of the Portland gang couldn't make it. One of our members got sick with COVID, I was in a car with him on the way back from Cino via SEATAC, another of us stayed with him at the Alamedas in Hot Springs, and the whole car pool thing fell apart. Just didn't want to risk passing it along to the elders in the group.

Next year!

Road bikes of the 1950s through 1980s just look right to me, with horizontal top tubes, downtube or barcon shift levers, toeclips and straps, etc.

I was telling someone (Matt?) that I was going to ride my Bertoni, but I found a 6mm crack in the rear rim last night.

He said to ask Bob if he has one, 700c Mavic MA40 red label 36h. And, yeah, he had exactly one. What a bonus!

Matt's ride today has an indexed, externally geared 4-speed, and it's old af.

Lovely morning ride 18 miles

The ride wasn’t long, but very scenic, I get why people live here.

Well, when in Twin Peaks land. Have you seen Bob?

Merziac show up w something interesting.

Host Bob has the most amazing, well curated collection in the NW

Had a fun time, met some BF'ers for the first time IRL, sold a bike (1960 Specialissima).
There were more BF'ers there who I probably talked to but I didn't connect them with their BF handles. Maybe we should try name tags next time?

See ya next year
