Anyone heard of a Meister Bicycle?

I bought a bike for cheap. I did some searching, but I am coming up empty-handed. The bike says Meister and has a red fox on the logo.

It has a mix of components sun-tour, etc.

I'm guessing a low end entry level bike, but can't find any more information. I'll post some pictures later, but wondered if anyone has heard of this bike?

That is a German [ or Austrian } made bike. In the search, type in " Meister Fahrrad ' [ fahrrad is bicycle in German] & you should find something. There are translation sites online, also, because what ytou find will mostly like be in German.

Meister

I just got one too and learned that it's not German, but Japanese--the company is Bridgestone, the one that makes the Kabuki bikes.

Yes, I bought one brand new when I was a kid back in 1974. It wasn't a cheap bike. I think I paid $150 and that was 40 years ago. It was blue with a lugged frame with the foxes. haha Very lightweight for it's time. I believe the frame was made in Germany and a different manufacture added the components. Sun-tour being one of those. I sold it in 1980 for $40. Wish I still had it.

Resurrecting an old thread. Just got this Meister bike from the original owner whose father bought it for her when she was in high school--a good candidate for clean-up and restoration.
Suntour derailleurs, Sugino crank, Dia Compe brakes. Will dive into it this weekend.

Clean bike with good restorable components.

The Meister fox.

Suntour Pro read derailleur.

Suntour stem shifters.

Sugino alloy cotterless crank

Wingnuts on the axles.

Yup -- basic low-end Japanese 10-speed, similar to some Azuki, Nishiki, and aforementioned Kabuki models. The normal-high (reverse action) front SunTour derailleur is pretty slick, and the slant planograph rear derailleur was by far the best in the business back when that bike was made.

I hope you plan to change out the front tire before taking a test ride.

Thanks for the information. A closer look at the derailleurs left me intrigued about their performance and I'm eager to get it set up for a test ride. And yes, new tires are on their way. Had hoped for an Austrian connection, but must have been another case or usurping a name for cheap imports.

That's not a SunTour Pro rear derailleur. It appears to be a SunTour GT. It was the bottom model of SunTour's long cage derailleurs, It shifted well and was near bulletproof but very heavy, weighing almost 1 lb.Bbased on the rear derailleur plus the wing nuts, it's almost certainly an early 1970 bicycle.

It was quite common for unrelated companies to use the same brand names, provided they were from different countries and the name had not been internationally trademarked. I don't believe your Meister is related to the Austrian marque. More likely, it is a Japanese or possibly USA brand.

T-Mar--you are right, that is a SunTour GT. Don't know where I got the idea it was a Pro. It does seem like a sturdy consumer bike and will still make a nice rider for someone. It has hardly been used.

I found and purchased one also. I think mine is from the 70s with Araya rims...
