OK....Coined a new term..."Ride To Eat-Eat To Ride".....Not giving up anything off the grill... just cutting back on the seconds or thirds!

I agree with you trainers are boring... but I have never ridden on a trainer. We in So Cal. are spoiled. Slightest bit of weather and it's "Storm Watch" on the news channels. OMG

Rollers with resistance are way more fun. I enjoy riding my set with the oldie rock music station turned way up. Some years, I put 2000 miles on them.

This ^

I did 5 hours on my trainer with Zwift on Jan 31 - Zwift century. No where near as fun as a century on the road, but a great challenge never the less.

This. Memories of hours on the trainers is enough for me to peek out the window and say, "It's not raining that hard. Looks like a fine day for a ride."

No kidding. I hated it so much, I sold it. I now ride a Schwinn Air Dyne just to get some cardio in.

And I hate that, too. Luckily, I got outside today. Roads are dry, and temps in the mid 30s, so all is well. I sure hope this weather keeps up.

Y'all should try trail running in the winter.

Ride a bike to the trailhead makes it extra primo good.

While not nearly as much fun as riding outside, trainers in the winter don't bother me. I watch a movie on Amazon and the 20 miles just flies (almost). Plus I save time on not having to gear up for the road.

I don't know how you do it, consistent indoor trainer rides that is. Those that do, have my respect. Or sympathy, or both.

I tried it this weekend just so I'd know what I was talking about. It just isn't any fun.

Got up this morning, 41º and pouring rain. Thought about the trainer for about 1 second, then went out and rode 42 miles in that pouring rain. Got hailed on, almost got doored by a car, and the last fifteen miles were uphill into an icy wind blowing down out of the mountains. Oh, and my rear axle had loosened, so the bearings were biting into the cone, absolutely devouring watts. It was like riding the the brakes on.

Still better than the trainer.

NA your location says SC, so why are you riding a trainer?

I'm in MA and as long as it is mid 30 and up I will be outside under that or winds near 20 I will move to the trainer. Then I look at the kinds of conditions people commute in and I'm a wussie.

I do get out and ride as much as possible on the weekends however during the work week I will usually ride before work. Works out great when the sun comes up early enough for me to get my ride in before work but not so much when it only starts to get light a few minutes before I leave for the office. I'm out in a very rural area so there is no street lighting at all, my only lighting is from a headlamp which I do use occasionally however I am just not comfortable riding without the ability to see anything on my flanks. So at this time of year I ride the trainer in the mornings to get my exercise in. When the time changes and we begin to get longer days I'll be on the road early mornings before work.

I was able to get out and ride real recumbent bikes this past weekend so passed up the opportunity to ride a recumbent machine at the YMCA this evening as I sometimes do when the weather sucks. I did use a variety of upper body machines and rowed for 15 minutes. Boring!

It's ok to refer to miles ridden on a stationary bike as long as you say something like 'I pretended to ride ten miles on the trainer today.'

My wife/stoker and I got in an hour's indoor ride this morning, she on her trainer, me on my rollers. We did 15' Z1 warm up and another 15' cool down with 30' of high cadence pedaling sandwiched between. Holding the maximum cadence possible while staying in zone 2 makes it more interesting. I'm down to 112 cadence from 117 ten years ago. Still, not bad. 13.5 miles. Then we went to the gym and lifted for an hour, 1' between sets. Snowshoed for 3 hours yesterday. We're trying to come back from having the flu. We have a 71 mile tandem ride coming this Saturday (1 mile/year) and it's not supposed to rain!
