Rear Axle Threads
Rear shimano axle, some threads are rough making cones and nuts hard to get on. Would a 24 tpi thread file be close enough for dressing the threads? 10M x 1.0 axle.

I suspect the thread file manufacturer and Shimano both would say no. One can use a single edge triangular file to work one thread at a time.
But rough threads are only an issue during the service work. If the cones/nuts are able to be threaded to their "correct" positions the threads won't mater during real use. Cones are often harder than axles are so a cone can be used to, somewhat, chase an axle thread.
Chasing dies are made. I have an old Bicycle Research set but it came before the onslaught of Asian bikes and doesn't have a 10x1. Andy

Do what those guys said and chase the threads with a die.
How did the threads get so damaged that you can't get the cones back on? I would assume they were damaged before you removed them, and that the process of removing them cleaned up the threads a good bit.
