Great cardiology checkup today. All good considering the 1997 heart attack. Total cholesterol at 116. HDL=61. LDL=38.
The concerning noise in my carotid artery turned out to be a blockage alright, but not in the branch that goes to the brain. It is in the branch that goes to the face. So no problem. I'm telling you, the technology is amazing.
Echocardiogram also good. Ejection fraction as expected at 43%. Oh well, can't win them all.
No trouble making 152 bpm on the treadmill as planned after refraining for 36 hours from my beta blocker.
All good for now. We'll see again in six months.

Well....that's pretty cool. VW flat 4s and Ford flatheads forever! I'm considering regressing even further...a neighbor has a nice Ford Model A pick-up he's thinking of selling.

Good thinking - Ti might be preferable just in case a knobbie throws a chunk of class 5 gravel in to the DT which would make the crabon tube fold like origami.
Side query: do CX bikes typically have the amenities that gravel bikes have (mostly thinking mounting points for racks, fenders, bottles)?

You need to look at "adventure" bikes to get those things. Like Fuji's Tread which is actually based on their old aluminum CX racing frame (the one I have).

Ugh - I'm here every other week and for work and can't imagine marrying anyone from here. Granted, most of the people I work with aren't from here, and are only here by circumstance, it's dealing with the local yokels that's challenging.

Update on my broken-shifter cable Ultegra 6700 on the Habanero. I spent about 45 minutes trying to extricate the old cable and thread a new one in. I could not get it to work and actually think the shifter mechanism is broken/jammed (note it is 7 years old and has roughly 25K miles on it). The innards are super-rusted anyway so I trashed it and took out a NOS 6700 shifter set I had hoarded from a few years back. I replaced the rear brake cable and housings as well as the RD cable and housings.
It now works fine, but my mechanic is not only a moron but super slow. The whole process took 2 hours.
I am torn as to whether to replace the front shifter. It still works ok but I do have a matching NOS one in the box.
I am still considering moving up to Di2 on at least ONE of the bikes (more likely the Roubaix since it has internal cables)...eventually.

NJ treated me well. First in a great grad school, my first job assignment, and then for many years on business visits.

My funniest NJ experience was driving across the state from Newark airport to the Poconos right after the legislature passed the law forbidding consumption of raw and undercooked eggs. The call-in radio program with folks expressing their opinions about the law was hilarious. Lots of comments about the egg yolk police.
Back in the Princeton days, some evenings late we would drive with another couple to the Dunkin Donuts in Trenton thirteen miles away. Suffice it to say that a hot dozen glazed never made it back to Princeton alive. Not a single one. Good memories from NJ.

I was getting desperate. The first, a Californian, and second, a Texan, didn't work out. I was hanging out in New Jersey a lot so thought what the hell I'll try some of these. Then eventually figgered out a native wouldn't work out all that well either, got a not all that happy with Jersey herself NE coastie transplant, and moved her out of there. That worked.
