1985 Centurion Ironman
I am not a racy rider and have come to the conclusion that I like a sport touring frame best, so this Ironman may have to go. I am in contact with a kind forum member here about his interest and need a price. I have had it for 3 or 4 years and put very few miles on it. It came to me near stock except for the stem, and Aero Gran Compe levers, plus seat. The levers and stem perhaps were changed as the bike came to me with the bolt on aero bars also. Very low miles I think, as the rings and chain were quite good. I have the stock freewheel, chain, and 42T Biopace ring also.
I personalized this bike to suit me more with a 39T front chainring and a 13-28 Sunrace seven speed freewheel. I replaced bearings, lubed, and put the wheels in my truing stand. Tires were replaced and are very low miles. There are some small chips and numerous scratches here and there, but overall amazing shape for the age. Hard bike to find in this condition, and in the popular 58cm size.
As can be seen, I added some personal touches like my favorite mirror. I drilled and tapped the aero lever. The cockpit and saddle may or may not be included depending on buyer preference. All my other bikes have non aero levers. This one however feels very good to me and brakes well and is my only bike that I care to ride on the hoods.
I will post in another thread pics of the worst of the flaws. No rust anywhere on this one, and I have too many bikes now. Sorry that my pics and bicycle detailing don't match up to the amazing photo spreads I often see on this site. As a retired UPS worker, I have no interest in shipping. The member I am in contact with is coming to this area in the future, and if he does decline, I will post this in the sales section for an in person sale. Thanks

more pics of the flaws
As mentioned, a few pics of the flaws. Not really too noticeable, but I did want to point out.

Very nice for a thirty-seven year-old Centurion. Looks like you took some spills.
Your photos seem fine. Clean up some of that surface rust in weird spots.
Lower the stem a couple inches, close the brake quick-releases, and lose the mirror.
For shipping, you can try Bike Flights or use eBay's service. Both blow USPS out of the water.
My guess is you bought for a shade under a thousand in '85. Perhaps it will go for $400?
List it for $500 and offer free shipping to continental U.S.

No spills by me. Marks were on it when purchased. Brake adjusters were open for cleaning bike. As you can see, it is set up for a older less racy guy. A member here is in contact, so I will see what he wants as far as setup first. Thanks for the input. Bike obviously needs a faster rider and setup.

Nice 85' , I built a 84' Comp TA from a bare frame . I didn't have too much money in it as I had most of the parts , it was a 58cm . I think I had it listed for $400. One buyer liked it (for his girl friend) but when he found out it had friction shift he didn't want it . The guy that finally bought it low balled me , I told him I would sell for his price $300 . but I wanted to take some parts off (they were stock looking) and replace them with (good parts) that were not stock looking to the bike . He said fine , I don't think he really cared about stock looking . But I do remember he wanted vintage steel .

That’s a very nice Ironman. I like to find my Ironmen under $250 which has been increasingly difficult to do. $350 +/- $25 is probably a good spot for yours.

As it sits, a $400 bike all day. With the frame chips nicely hand filled, a longer stem…$500.
Hard to sell for more than that with friction shifting that requires handstands to convert to indexed due to braze on type.
But I’d pay $400 as it sits. Heck, if your friend doesn’t want to pay that much, I will, plus shipping.

I would think anything made out of Tange 1 with a well treated 600 group should get at least 3 bills.

Quick note that the forum member I was in contact with has declined on this one. He has that common problem of too many bikes. So I will post this in the sales section soon. I will put the stock freewheel, chain, and 42t front sprocket back on it. Local pickup only though, as I don’t want to get involved in shipping.
