Giant Expressway 1 Weight?
Hi,
I've been lurking here for about two years. I have a road bike and a Downtube 9 front-suspension. The Downtube was purchased based primarily on posts from this forum. However I'm finding the Downtube a bit unwieldy to carry around (I can't roll it to where I ride so it must be carried). I saw the Giant Expressway 2 in shop. It felt amazingly light. We were going out for the evening so I was unable to test drive and am now unsure of my perception of the weight. Of course, the 2 does not have the fenders or rear rack that the 1 has. No bike stores in my area have the Expressway 1. No retailers have been able to provide a weight. Giant purposely does not provide the weight for any of their bikes. They also do not allow their bikes to be shipped. The Downtube rides nicely but I'm considering getting the Expressway 1 if it is indeed lighter. This means I have to purchase unridden. Can anyone help with the weight? My Downtube is supposed to be 27 pounds, but feels much heavier.
Thanks

i wonder why they never advertised it's true weight ? i am guessing it's quite heavy otherwise if it's light then nos. will be all over and they should have been bragging about it. i checked online and could only find this statement... Weight Unspecified. they're asking you to test it yourself. interesting...

I know. It's Giant's "thing". They don't publish weights for any of their bikes. There is also neither a contact number or email addy for Giant. They insist you go through the LBS. Of course, in my case the LBS doesn't have the bike and doesn't know the weight. I guess Giant doesn't think weight matters. I really can't order when I don't know what I would be getting.

You should be able to get the weight question resolved. Ask your local Giant dealer to contact a Giant dealer with an Expressway 1 in stock. Or start calling Giant dealers until you find one with an Expressway 1 in stock.

Hi,
Yes, I agree. But as I mentioned before "No bike stores in my area have the Expressway 1. No retailers have been able to provide a weight. " I've called all within 50 mile radius and a few in NYC and DE. So far no luck - hence the question I posted. Thanks.

Thank you! The shop is on the other coast, but providing the 800 #'s is a terrific help. Thanks again! I will call tomorrow. A Philly bike shop that sells the Expressway were very nice and estimated the weight between 25 - 29. They didn't know the number definitively. I'll call the Cali shop tomorrow. They don't publish any phone numbers or emails on Giant's web site. Here is the contact info:
"Please contact your local Giant retailer for immediate assistance on questions and information regarding Giant bicycles such as suggested retail price, component specifications, replacement and upgrades, bicycle and frame weights, service and maintenance, model availability, warranty replacement, etc. Your Giant retailer is extremely knowledgeable on the subject of Giant bicycles and should be able to assist you with your question. You can also go to www.giant-bicycles.com, choose USA, then clickselect Bikes or Gear for answers to questions regarding current model year equipment specifications."
Thanks so much!

Hi, I never quite got the exact weight, but I was able to compare my Downtube to the Expressway 1 via a vist to West Chester Cyclery. The Expressway is definitely much lighter than my Downtube. The Downtube is supposed to be 27 according to DT's site, but it's more than that.
Thanks so much the weights Bill as well as for your offer. However I'm going to go with Expressway 1 due to racks, fenders, extra gears, cassette derailleur, etc. Now I'll have to sell my downtube 9 Front Suspension. Good luck with your mini velo!

Great bike but very heavy 35lbs
I have weighed the bike. I live in Australia. We use kilograms here. The Giant Expressway 1 weighs around 16 kilograms. That is 35lbs. Much more than everyone is guessing. Don't get me wrong. It is a great bike. I love it.
It rides almost as well as a normal road bike. I have ridden the bike on 100km rides and it is fine. It is just a heavy bike.
