Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road bikes and credit unions.... what???

One of the local credit unions is running this ad in a free weekly paper. I thought it was somewhat funny:

Saddle is a Sella Italia Regal. Very nice saddle back in the day.

I checked out the bike first and also thought he was carrying a chalk board....

Ok I guess I am +3 or 4 to the chalk board.

Funny ad but unless that guy keeps the plasma vertical on the ride home it is going to be worthless. LOL

I don't think I see a quick release on that front wheel. If true- he's O-TAY!

I looked at the bike and drooled over the white Regal before noticing the TV. Then, I scroll down and see everyone talking about the saddle. Too funny, you guys crack me up!

Not to mention, that's about a 60 cm bike, and the guy looks like he ought to ride a 54.

The Regal is still a nice saddle, still available, the only plastic saddle worth having and by the way it is San Marco Regal.

Not Selle Italia.

I went to the local computer shop on my bike and came out with a flat screen. I hauled it back home on the bike with no difficulties. Same for the big beige box the next day.

Okay, me too.

The first thing I looked at was the bike, then his shoes, then the Coast Capital sign. Saw the "chalkboard" several times and didn't realized what it was until I read the ad.

There are a couple of bike shops here that finance purchases of freeride/downhill mountain bikes... in the $2500-4500 (Canadian) price range. You get a very thorough credit check and pay a down payment, I believe the financing is done through a bank they have an arrangement with.

It's not something I would do, but it would be one possible way to stretch payments for a bike like a Tarmac Expert or R3000 over 3-4 months.
