Tire slightly unseated

Hey guys, a shop fixed a spoke and the back wheel still felt a bit off, but the spokes seemed fine so I kept riding it. The wheel kept annoying me I could tell something was wrong, and I found it is partially unseated. I tried reseating it twice and it didnt work. I’ve had blowouts from similar, is this just hanging on by the thread or is it fine. I don’t want to buy a new wheel.

it probably saw ~100 miles like this which may contribute to it not seating properly now?

I had a tire do that. Within a few seconds the tube popped out, blew, and left me ears ringing for a while (even worse than usual).

I’d check the wheel, and hope to get away with replacing the tire.

Time for a new tire unless you enjoy hearing what sounds like a rifle shot.

You need to get that seated properly. Let the air out then grab the tire and horse it around. Maybe wear gloves to do this. Then pump it up again. Repeat as needed. It will be worth the effort. Good luck.

Normal people would just seat the tire. If you are seeing something like this you should NOT ride on it.

If you are having problems seating the tire and the tire is in good condition and the bead isn't damaged, all you need to do is take the air out and massage it in and then pump it slowly and a normal person should be fine at that point. If you keep having issues but everything is good you just need to be more careful and repeat the steps.

If your bead is damaged replace the tire, that is what normal people would do.

Your tire bead looks bad and if your rim is straight sided and doesn’t have a hooked bead you’re not going to be riding for very long.

That’s not an unseated tire, it’s just falling apart.

I thought it would be the rim that needs to be replaced, both are pretty new but this is the 2nd or 3rd (thought 3rd but forgot) and normally to me that means the wheel is struggling and suspect.
I tried reseating it twice carefully

Time for a new tire. It looks like the sidewall has separated from the bead.

Are you suggesting a certain individual is not “normal?”

Deflate tire, rotate this section of tire 180 degrees from where it is now. If it bulges out again at this spot on the tire, replace the tire, if it bulges at this spot on the rim, take it to the shop you bought the bike at and make a warranty claim, if it stays seated, ride it until you have some other issue and post about that.

I expect whatever you did to break the spoke also compromised the tire, probably the wheel as well. Time to visit Wally for a new bike.

I MTB only, so this might not apply, but, ASSUMING THE TIRE ISN'T TOAST, sometime need to use a soap solution (or equivalent) to get a tire to fully seat and not "stick" in one section of the system.

I can't tell from that picture since I can't see the tire's witness along the entire rim diameter. However from the picture you show it looks like the bead is torn there.

I have seen some tires that the witness line is higher above the rim as that is in the picture. But not knowing if that much is exposed on the other half of that side of the rim I'd not know if that is bad or good.

Best bet is to take it off and see if the bead is torn or not. If you think the shop did it, then just consider if you want to make enemies or just put a new tire on and remain friendly with them. Though I'm not saying you can't mention it to them and see what they say.

If it’s the tire I don’t care, I assumed it was the wheel, which would be a much more expensive fix.

Well if you are thinking it was the wheel that caused it you should be looking at the inside of the rim there when you have the tire off. However if that is a tear, it might be from underinflated tire getting pinched between road and rim during a bad bump. Resulting in a cut or enough damage that took some time to show. So the problem might have started many miles ago. It just took time to get bad enough to get noticed.

At the risk of feeding the troll, I have to ask, are we all looking at the same picture? It’s clearly a tire that’s coming apart and not a seating issue.
