Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm a poser, and proud of it!!!

I spend entirely too much money on jerseys (and other stuff to look fast while I go slooooow). I've seen, but don't have, the "poseur" jersey. What I do have:

Pro teams:
- Z Team
- Banesto
- Casino
- Discovery 2005 yellow, white, and 7-star Champs Elysees versions
- Discovery 2007 black
- Francaise Des Jeux: all major recent designs, plus the team Uvex helmet

Obviously promoting something:
- Rocket Power Parts
- Fetish Cycles
- (nothing but sponsor names on a solid black jersey) - unlike most multi-sponsor jerseys, this one is laid-out very nicely - and I actually use parts by most of the sponsors
- TdF 2006 LCL Yellow jersey - I proudly wear this because I think ALL the pros are doping, including Armstrong (he just never got caught - and for the record, I'm a huge Lance fan, I just don't buy into the argument that he didn't dope)
- TdF 2007 LCL Yellow jersey - ditto (though I don't like "chicken legs" Rasmussen)

Not obviously promoting something:
- "One Less Car" Nascar spoof jersey - looks like the Nascar logo, but says "One Less Car". Has sponsors such as Good Gear (instead of Good Year), ExFat (instead of FedEx), etc. All the colors and fonts are very close to the real thing. Just enough changes so the jersey manufacturer (Specialized) didn't get sued, I suppose. From a distance you'd immediately think "there goes a bicyle rider wearing a Nascar jersey".
- Crossroad "Space Invader" jersey
- Crossroad "I Love Earth" jersey, the black one with the Polish Eagle (yup, I'm part Polish)
- Polish Post jersey - this one encourages people to say things - I've gotten more comments from passing cars when wearing this jersey than all other jerseys combined - lots of Poles where I live, so that might explain why.

Jerseys I don't have, but want:
- Z Team - White world champion jersey (any replicas out there? I've seen Tomasso "originals" on eBay, but I'm not willing to fork out that kind of cash)
- Hill Slug jersey - discontinued, I'm watching eBay
- World Jerseys "Las Vegas" jersey - when they get the color of the dice right, that is. No casino uses white opaque dice!!!
- Early FDJ jersey(s)

All fellow posers, chime in and tell us what you've got/want.

It's ok...
I'm wearing a David Beckham jersey, but I can't bend a free kick anywhere near as good as he. Also I've never done underwear ads.
I'm a poser too...

Why would you imagine anyone would be interested in a list of your bike jerseys?

Does labelling oneself a poser instead of a poseur count as irony?

The finer points of irony escape me.

I have a few jerseys, some of them even fit me. I am proud to say that I don't own any team jerseys from teams that I haven't raced for.

I had a Jerry Rice jersey when I was a kid. I wasn't catching passes from Steve Young and my skin is to light

It would be pretty boring if I said:
- solid red jersey
- solid black jersey
- green jersey, with (ooh!) yellow stripes

Nor could I support my poser claim with the above

I'm SUCH a poser that I can't wait for you to see me slugging up hills at 5mph. I have to broadcast it to the world.

If your socks don't exactly match your jersey then you're not even really trying.

Doesn't PCad have an infinitely (not really, but it seems that way) long thread about his latest purchase somewhere?

That might be a bad example, as he argues with himself....

OP didn't include the Kellog's Rice Krispies cereal jersey. Nothing more disarming and nostalgic than that.

A multi-page thread dedicated to just this exists and appears on page 1 from time to time. Why all the hate?

I never really understood the whole concept of being frowned upon in the bike world for wearing a pro team jersey. I used to wear a Michael Jordan jersey and other of my favorite basketball players jerseys throughout growing up but didn't play for the Bulls or Lakers etc. I'm not even on the same planet as Michael Jordan's skills, so does that make me a poser? Same can be said about people that wear NFL or MLB jerseys of there favorite player/team. Wear what you want and who gives a damn about what another cyclist thinks about you.

That's a lot of jerseys.

I have a Steve Kerr jersey. Good jersey to have in Chicago in 1997.

Good one and I agree.

I have a Hammer kit and got it cheaply cause I bought so much Hammer stuff. I really like the looks of the kit but the cost of most kits are the only thing keeping me from having more.
Good for you.
