Chicago Lakefront Vintage Ride - Nov. 2nd

Anybody up for a lake front ride this coming Saturday, November 2nd? The forecast is for 50 degrees and sunny, which may be as good as we get for a while...

Start:

10:00 a.m. - Foster Beach House, Foster and Lake Shore Dr.

https://binged.it/SKpxu6

We can ride to the bottom of the path and back, which is around 34 miles, I believe? It's impossible to get lost, and folks can ride at their own pace, or simply turn around at any point that they like. The path can get crowded in some parts, even in October, but the south end is wide open and the view is the real draw. It's pretty spectacular, even for those of us that ride it on a regular basis.

Afterwards, we can meet at Moody's Pub for a burger and beer (1:30 p.m.)? They have a great patio, and we've been lucky with the weather in the past and been able to sit outside. If it's too cold, we can still park our bikes on the patio and keep an eye on them from inside.

https://binged.it/WO52gy

If we're lucky, Gomango might even join us, making the long trek down from MN. All you other Midwesterners have no excuse not to come....

Hope you all can make it; we've had pretty decent turn out and a good time in the past...

Here's a photo from a few years ago...

*** If anyone is driving in, or riding in from the north suburbs, feel free to meet up at my house before hand. I live about 3 miles north of the Foster Beach House, and we can all ride down to the start together. Folks could park there, use the bathroom, do last minute tire inflation or adjustments. PM me for contact information.

Also, the Beach House restrooms should be open. Parking there shouldn't be too bad, I'd guess. The El and Metra are pretty close, for anyone that wants to train it in, and ride to the start. ***

Couldn't find a nicer bunch of people to ride with. Hopefully we'll see some new faces this time.

You got that right!

Don't think I'll be able to make it, but will let you know if that changes.

Sorry that you won't be able to make it, Bill! I have a conflict for Sunday, or else I'd consider rescheduling for your sake! Sorry that Think Tubes won't be able to make it either.

Look forward to seeing other folks. I've received some confirmations via an email to local vintage buffs, so I imagine that there will be at least ten of us or so....

This sounds interesting. I'd have a nice long ride getting up that far north, but with no work the night before, it sounds like fun! I wonder if I can get my girlfriend's bike finished enough for her to come along as well.

From where would you be riding? You could also meet up with us further south....

Easiest route to the lake for me has me getting on the MUP at North Ave.

EDIT: However, I don't mind a ride up to Foster, I just may get off at North instead of riding all the way south, depending on how much I've got in the tank.

Thanks for the thought. We now have family plans on Sunday so I couldn't make it then either.

I hope we can all get together next year for iab's annual Spring Ride.

The problem is the fact that the first thing I’d do up there is stuff myself at Malnati’s, Super Dawg and maybe a gyro or two from Wally’s. I wouldn’t be sew up safe for a month. A Varsity might be able to support me after I got done eating

I'm a fan of Lou Malnati's (best deep dish in Chicago) and Super Dawg (have a t-shirt in my closet), but never been to Wally's. Per the google, is that in Park Ridge? May have to give that a try....

Yep, Park Ridge. After talking about Wally's, the wife and I had to drive over 30 miles today to get some Greek food.

Excellent. If folks post up where they plan to meet up, and what they'll be riding, it will be easier to connect.

I'll riding from my house (obviously) and riding the full path. Will probably ride my Bianchi, as it hasn't had a proper flatland ride yet

I'll be bringing everyone in the car. We'll park at Foster Ave Beach House. In a Gold Honda CR-V. I'll have a blue Trek 400, 1 friend has a Ross of some kind, And one will have a newish bike. I told him it would be OK, he can get a nice vintage bike for next time. :-)
