In the wild: Former BF member bikes

In order to show appreciation for the bikes you continue to ride, post your bikes that were purchased from other BF members.

From iab:

I wish I had considered the shifter/derailleur positions, but I had to cut the ride short because it felt like something was slipping (freewheel pawls?). These were the only 4-speed wheels I had that fit at the moment, until I build a new clincher wheelset for this bike. I'm just not a big fan of tubular tires that were original to the bike, though I will never disassemble that wheelset.

Coming soon: Olmo, Criterium, Hobbs, and Fuji Pro Super Record

Some folks don't care for the 'gator skin leather works, but

Frameset and crankset from @ftwelder, rear wheel from @nlerner.

Oh man, so many of my best ones came from here, outed, facilitated, wrangled and passed on to me.

I'll pick some of the best and post them.

That is too cool! Your own fabriacation, or is there really a cottage industry of gator leather bicycle goods down there in the south?

It's my own custom work. It is actually cow hide embossed to look like alligator or crocodile. I also recovered this Avocet saddle given to me from @jdawginsc to match, butt (sic) it was a real hatchet and couldn't stay.

Since the base is from an Avocet Racing saddle that was losing its original cover, do we call it an "Avogator" or a "Gatorcet?"

We settled on "Gatorcet."

I might worry about the stitching making a hole in my shorts, but very talented work!

As advertised by randyjawa in the C&V sales forum in 2016:

(EDIT: the sales thread is still there: Early Seventies Mercier Mixte - $80.00 CND

As is my falling-in-love-with-it post. I ended up having it shipped to Holland for another $300 CND, but the business case was rock solid. QED.)

As ridden by mrs non-fixie. At L'Eroica 2017:

Getting a lot of attention at the Retro Tour of Flanders in 2018:

I didn't buy my International from noglider, but he sent me the listing and strongly encouraged buying it - no regrets!

Big thanks to all - these bikes bring me joy.

A Peugeot and a Raleigh

I have two bikes I picked up from BF members: a 1982 Peugeot PXN 10 and a 1980 Raleigh Record Act. The RRA is not yet finished; I've been riding the PXN 10 quite a bit.

I thought this thread was going to be about creeping on former BF bikes that are now owned by strangers.

Where's that chrome Raleigh you bought a few years ago. That was one I was looking at too!

I got that from Classic Rendezvous list. The seller kew about, but wasn't on BF often. But since you asked so nicely:

It's now wearing the 49D crank arms that were on Mrs. ascherer's Gran Jubilé, with new VO rings. The Moto has a nice VO Grand Cru setup with the 165 arms which had been on this. The next change to the Pro is I'm going to replace the bushings on the Competition brakes, and mount a set of Jack Brown Greens for a little more breathing room under the fenders.

'78 Batavus - I cannot remember who. . Someone south of me, Auburn or Puyallup?

'82 Mondia Super from @SurferRosa. ^^^

1983-ish AD Vent Noir frameset from @nesteel

1987 Bianchi Vittoria frameset + bits from [MENTION=204]andyantipas

1989 Falcon frameset from @Brewsmith

1972 Zeus frameset from a Canadian member and @gugie

1972 Holdsworth (branded Harding) Pro frameset from @Charles Wahl

The AD Michelle frame (1980ish) + bits came from a member west of Chicago.

Nary a hitch with any purchase. Alas, not all these bikes are still with me as I age.
Gone are: Vent Noir, Falcon, Zeus. Michelle now my daughter's bike. Harding a new project!
edit = that's 8 from BFers unless I missed any.
I have sold or given over 15 bikes to fellow members
Been a BFer for a while, guess there's a reason I like this place!!

Wow. I rolled into this picture thinking to myself "what a nice Carlton" not even realizing what it was (!)

Technically you have wedgeSG to thank, as I traded him a Romani frameset for this Kermesse.

This fine old Allegro came to me from @bibliobob. You can find the build thread here.

This Carlton from @retyred is still a work in progress. The GB hoods are the most recent and difficult find. Build thread here.

This is such great fun out on the road.
He had a couple of these in his very healthy collection. Saw them in person and they were stunning.
