WTB: steel frameset, 130 rear, suitable for 6-63 rider
Hello C&V, I am looking for a new winter project. Im interested in cleaning out my parts bin and building up an older steel frameset with modern components (brifters, 130 rear hub, hollow tech bb).
My only real criteria is a 700c frame without significant structural damage and any features that will make modern components difficult to install (French threaded bb, rear spacing too narrow to safely open to 130, etc).
I am 63 but Ill consider anything 57cm TT and larger. Id like to be able to test ride and dial in the bike but I typically give bikes away after finishing them, so it doesnt need to fit me perfectly.
I live in Minneapolis and would be happy to pay shipping costs or pickup within 2 hours of the metro. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Schwinn Super Sport, $125 + shipping. White or cream, Tange #2 tubing. Nicely made (made in Japan), in good shape. I think it's a 58cm top tube; I'll check that and get you photos if you're interested. I have plenty of bits and components to complete a build if you're missing anything.

My 84 Paramount Touring is listed in the classifieds here. 63.5 CM. I am asking $350.

Don't disregard an older 126mm rear frame. Setting them to accept 130mm hubs is trivially easy. You can even mount them without stretching with a bit of struggle but the resizing is pretty straightforward.

Hi,
Check my posting in If the Frame Doesn’t Fit... thread from 10-7-2022. Still have that PDG Series 3 frameset. If you are interested, let me know & I’ll get measurements including stand over. Email: vancy@att.net
Cheers,
Van

Some photos of the Schwinn Super Sport that I mentioned upthread:

62x58, each center-to-center. Tange #2 tubing. Looks like it's chromed under the paint, which has some scratches. Some nice details. Made in Japan.

That has all the indicators of an 83 Trek 700. Nice riding frame if that is what it is.

Hello again,
There are a couple of bike co-ops in your area. You may want to check out their available frames. Could probably get one for less than shipping cost.
Cheers,
Van

You should connect with @obrenharris about the lovely Centurion Pro Tour bike/frame set that he’s got for sale:
https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...urn-racks.html
I predict that you won’t give that one away after it’s built up and ridden!
