Did Colnagos ever have a "widow's peak" on the headset?
I know, I know. Betteridge's philosophy on headlines.
Any headline with a question mark,…..the answer is NO.
Anyway, saw this on ebay, so there is that.

Has not quite fish scale paint job on what looks to be an older super, before the panto'd seat stays came out (1978)

In it's defense, I guess back in the say, 1990-2010s, if you were getting a paint job and the painter said, "hey, I could braze on a middle cable guide, or add shifters."
You wouldn't go, "oh hell no. Because someday like in 2023 I might take this to a bike swap meet, I don't want people pointing out the historical inaccuracies."

Took a poll of the kids in the next cubicle. They had no idea what a widow's peak is.

I have 3 colnagos, 2 Supers (one with “over the top” bottom bracket derailleur cable guides, one with under the bottom bracket cable guides) and one “Sport” model. None have a “widows peak” as shown in the pic, but the Sport does have 3 brake cable guides.

I can't say that I've ever seen a steel Colnago with a 'widows peak'. Mine are all cut straight across. As for 3 top tube cable guides - yes, some older Colnago's did have 3 top tube cable guides but it's much more common to have just the two.
This frame looks like a nice frame from the late 70's to early 80's (my guess - early 80's) with a Campy Portacatena rear RH dropout but it doesn't look like a Colnago frame.

And if one is going to fake it, toss the Benotto fork and also grind off the center cable braze on, on the top tube. Stickers with Ernesto signature would help and a blessing from Pope John wishing it was all Oro.

odd that the Velo-Retro timeline makes no mention of the lugs (besides when they are chrome-plated) but it's typical that most steel frames used the Prugnat 62-D head and seat lugs.
However most of the images of that model from Prugnat show them as having the "peak" in the front of the headlugs, and Colnagos almost always have a straight edge.
So not sure if all the builders modified the headlugs or if Ernesto had Prugnat supply his builders with factory-special headlugs...would be nice to hear from somebody who knows.
Anyhow, there are enough OTHER discrepancies to say that the example shown is not a Colnago, as many have opined.
