Hi folks,

ISO Shimano Ultegra 6500 front wheel that has a 700C silver boxed rim with either 32 or 36 spokes. Doesn’t need to pristine, but I’d like one in decent shape. For trade, I have an “Aero” Shimano Ultegra (6700?) front wheel that was part of my compensation for servicing and repairing a neighbor’s bike. It has 16 straight pull spokes in a radial pattern. The rim is labeled “Shimano Ultegra”. There is also a small label saying “Shimano Wheel Technology, 15 X 622”. The bearings are smooth and it looks true, but I haven’t checked it on the truing stand. A few minor scratches, but the brake surface is very good. It weighs ~800 grams with skewer & rim strip. See pix for visual details. I would also consider a wheel with a Tri-color hub that’s VGC.

If it's just not grabbing on the upshift, soak it in some WD or PB blaster. Those things never really give up, usually they just get gummed up and pawls stop engaging. I'd be willing to bet that you can bring it back with and hour of soaking. Even a good degreaser would probably work wonders.

At first is wasn't shifting into the smallest cog (no matter what I tried), so I finally took it in along with a headset issue. The headset's great, the shifter is worse than when I got it, it's not retracting after pressing the lever. I'm just gonna try a different one to see if it works. I've got one lined up, hopefully it works out! Maybe I'll try to fix the one I have some day...

It’s going on an early 80s Japanese MTB if that narrows it down so Euro stuff wouldn’t fit the mojo. I’m looking for a sturdy girl, not a sexy one….

If you're up for doing a little work (and finding an axle set) I have a bare shell with a combo UG/HG cassette body installed Shimano Exage hub, good innards, matches your specs (it's 36 hole and most likely was 126 when had an axle/spacers) and with a QR axle it'll be QR.
Yours for cost of shipping.
Might be too much work for the payoff, but I just came across it this afternoon and thought: "now what am I gonna do with this?"

- mostly the stuff I get from V-O is fine. I've not had any of their handlebars break on me. So far. I bought a spendy crankset from them that cracked after less than 6k miles over 2 years - they said it's a 1 year warranty. They did offer to sell me new crank arms.... at more than half the price of a new crankset. So generous. At some point in my life I'll quit holding a grudge, but not today.

With re-spacing (via removal of NDS spacers), these would "fit the bill" if HG/UG is acceptable:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/195094364558 (Exage, hub set, HB-HG50 front and 135mm FH-HG20 rear, re-spaceable by removing 1 or 2 NDS spacers, no skewers, NOS). Version linked shows 2 NDS spacers on the rear hub, but some were sold with a single larger spacer.

The HG20 and HG50 appear virtually identical; as I recall, the only differences were that one has an axle with full-length threading while the other doesn't, plus the HG20 has the model number embossed into the NDS dust cover vice on a hub barrel sticker. I'm fairly sure the HG50 was also sold in 126mm. So re-spacing either should be fine.

Didn't find much besides VO for freewheel in NOS 126mm.
