Seeing the pictures of the 50th anniversary Campy groupo got me thinking, if you had to pick a frame from 83 to put one on, what would it be?

I have trouble remembering all of the models of '83, I wasn't born until September, after all!

This one.
And I did just that in the fall of 83'. But I didn't actually get it until April of 84'. I was into touring at the time and Italian bikes just didn't do anything for me until about 88' or so.

Tough call - there's so many good options. I'm having too much fun with my Gitane's - so I'd probably lean toward a Gitane Super Corsa or another Tour de France (it had Italian components0. Yeah, I know it's not Italian - even worse it's French.

Funny thing is I have most of a Super Record group from my dad (just missing a front derailleur and brakes) so this is a question I ask myself a lot as I peruse CL and Ebay.

In 1983, I was racing a Viner with NR gruppo and Ambrosia rims. Can I have that back?

1983 was at the end of the "Elite" Paramounts produced by Waterford between 1980 and 1983.

A 50th anniversary Campy gruppo would go perfectly with those frame sets (Columbus SL and SP, Henry James investment cast lugs).

Pastor Bob has an '83 Paramount...

I see in your sig you have a '75 Sekine. I never heard of this bike until last night's annual New Year's Eve party hosted by old friends -- I saw a Sekine hanging in the garage. I asked our friend about the bike, and he said he didn't know anything about it, other than it belonged to one of his kids. So what can you tell us about Sekine?

I have an about 83 Colnago I picked up at a reasonable price about 13 years ago as a trade-in at a LBS. I base the age on the crankarm date code which is for 83. Already pretty much all Super Record but the anniversary group would be a nice upgrade!

Mine is the "Standard" which was first produced that year. They only came as a frame set and I'm certain a 50th Anniversary gruppo would look way better then the modern Campagmano stuff I've installed.

Maybe in 2033 I'll install the 100th Anniversary edition. Was there a 75th last year?

Sekine was a Japanese/Canadian bicycle firm most popular in the 70's. Lots of info about Sekine is available in this 8 page thread.

colnago arabesque with 50th anniversary would do it for me. if i remember the arabesque came out in late 1983 as a 1984 model.

I think you're on to something alancw3 or perhaps Lotek's Tommasini Prestige would do the trick. The Colnago Arabesque's did have those spectacular lugs though.

Whatever you find that fits and satisfies your sensibilities about aesthetics and craftsmanship.

Cheez, there were so many great bikes from this period--De Rosa, Merckx, Rossin, Colnago, Masi, Gios, Benotto, Moser, Motta, Paramount, Serotta, Eisentraut, Marinoni, Cinelli, Guerciotti, Basso, Ciocc, Sachs, Gitane Super Corsa, Bottecchia, Bianchi, 3-Rensho, Follis 672, Fuji Pro, Pinarello, Battaglin, Limongi--have I left anyone out?

Note that I've included two French bikes, two Japanese manufacturers, one Canadian, three Americans, and two USA-transplants in addition to the customary litany of Italians.
