Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I hope you ordered several. Spoke breakage tends to be like celebrity deaths - they come in groups.

I'd signed up for the April Grand Fondo Challenge on Strava, and I realized this morning I only have 6 days to complete it. SO I figured I'd go for the requisite metric century. I ended up going 70 miles, which makes this the longest ride I've done since at least 2014.It was a nice day for it, right up until the 6 miles of headwind on Canada Rd. Silly me, I'd gone too hard on another straight segment, making myself "That Older, Fatter, Faster Guy" to about 4 other guys who were doing the same 4 mile stretch. There was one guy, must have been 6'5". I found myself drafting him, but then felt bad and moved out of his slipstream.

I missed a water stop and ended up thirsty and hungry by the time I got to about 60 miles, but there's one along Canada, so one bottle and two gels later I felt a lot better. I learned my lesson years ago - if I feel like that 10 miles out, I'll feel a hell of a lot worse by the time I get home, if I don't eat something!

I took a couple pics...

When I bought Ksyrium wheels they came with the spoke wrench. The first time I broke a spoke they were still under warranty and they gave me a handful of spokes. Then a spoke nipple ripped out of the rear rim and they put on a new rim under warranty. The next time a nipple ripped out it was close to the end of warranty, maybe just out and they gave me another rim for free. The next time one ripped out I was far from home and got dropped by the group so I tried to limp into the next city and 2 more ripped out so it wouldn't even roll. Ended up taking a cab home for $100. Mavic said no more warranty so I paid for another rim and sold the wheelset after it was fixed.

Got it to build my first set of wheels, eight or nine years ago. It was affordable and works very well.

There is a guy that lives behind me, but a house down. I’ve never met the guy. His backyard is a mess as he never trims the bushes or weeds his flower beds, and allows his pool to go green (we have iron fences so his backyard is visible to us and the other neighbors. Today he decided to drain his pool by running a hose into my backyard and pumping water thru it so it would run into a storm water drain on my property. It is illegal to put pool water into that drain because of environmental contamination concerns. It’s also illegal here to divert water from one property to another. So, I asked him tonight not to do so. He tried to argue with me, but I insisted that he not drain his pool onto my property.

Am I the a-hole?

Into the sanitary sewer system. That way it gets treated at the water treatment plant to remove chlorine, bromine, Algiers, and other chemicals.

Speaking of Algiers, I think I'll watch it tonight. Haven't seen it since the late '80s
