1986 Schwinn Passage
Ahhh the satisfaction of a completed build. 1986, made in Mississippi, Schwinn Passage constructed out of (mostly) Columbus Tenax.
Replaced brakes, pads, cables and housing, wheels, shifters, handlebars and stem, levers, saddle and derailleur.
Second time running these velocity quills and they are the bees knees for tubeless. Im a big fan of these Miche hubs, too. They let you know they’re there and they have cartridge bearings. Win win in my book. The gravelkings measure out at a true 38 and have plenty of clearance front and rear.
The Suntour XC pro RD is moving across a 9 speed 11-32 cassette via Shimano 9 bar end shifters in friction.
The 27” to 700c conversion was handled with Shimano BR-M550s (LX) and they work great with kool stop thin lines. Very easy setup for cantis even considering the 61mm front post spacing.
I took her out to run some errands today, and she is perfect. Lively, quick, plenty of cush.
She came home to me from a bikeforums member. I can’t say how much I appreciate all the knowledge this site and the people have created and shared over the years. Outstanding.
Anyways…pictures!

That's too pretty to ride, but with all the touring gear it looks like you are going on a long one. Fido does not look happy that you'll be leaving.

Great build! Can we see a shot of the pad angles? Curious how low those LX pads can get.

Nice. That sounds and looks exactly like my setup with the stock Dia Compes on my Voyageur. It also stops well enough.

I have heard the stock diacompes will handle the conversion with no problem. I have a strong disdain for setting up smooth post cantilevers. Some would call this an inability.
If the post spacing allowed, I would be running mini v-brakes, but these were very simple to set up and the braking is great.
