anyone for SRAM and Motobecane?
Having issues with what spacers for the Whipshot frame.... 68..GXB BB. Would post specs but not enough posts! Thanks!

Can you clarify what you're asking? What spacers to use for your BB? The shell is 68mm so you should use the 2 spacers. What crankset are you using?

Old French Motobecane , or the BD "motobecane" in name only?
It's just another bike , brand is paint .. Sram is who made the components..
@ My Local shop, they do the assembly work for the buyers, for a Fee..
I expect your's can help you out..

BB french thread ( 35x1mm both sides RH thread )
or british 1.37" x 24 tpi RH cup LH threaded LH cup RH thread...

SRAM GXP bottom brackets with road cranksets in a 68mm bottom bracket shell needs no spacers. The Bikesdirect website specs are not super clear, but it appears that they may have used a "wide axle" version of that crankset. If that is the case, then it has the same axle(spindle) length as an MTB crankset and would use the two 2.5mm spacers that come with the bottom bracket. One spacer goes on each side.
Where there spacers on the original bottom bracket, or did you buy a bare frame? In the case of building up a bare frame, we would need to know what crankset you are using.

Using a force one, the BB is 68mm... so the BB is OK....
The crankset did NOT come with any spacers, and I do believe i need a preload adjuster (?), and a 4.84.... if link guide is correct! I have to contact the local chop where I got it regarding the needed spacers for the crank!

GXP threaded bottom brackets don't use preload adjusters or wave washers. Those are only used on press fit bottom brackets. If you have a normal Force 1 crankset, the spindle should measure around 117mm from the inside of the drive side arm to the end of the spindle. If that is the case, you don't need any spacers. Just install the cups, slide the spindle through, install the washer/dust cover with the spline pattern in the center and then bolt on the non-drive arm and tighten it.
If the spindle is longer than 117mm, you probably have the "wide axle" version and you need one 2.5mm spacer between each bottom bracket cup and the shell.
Is this a crankset that you purchased separate from the frame? If it is and the bottom bracket came with it, you should have everything you need to install it in your frame.
BTW- the above linked instructions are for installing an MTB crankset. MTB cranksets are made with a longer spindle to fit in a 73mm bottom bracket. GXP bottom brackets only use the spacers when installing an MTB length spindle into a 68mm bottom bracket. For a road crankset, no spacers are used.

I gave some thought to switching to a cartridge BB but gave up after briefly trying to remove the fixed cup (never figured out if the threads were LH or RH). I got a new (cottered) crank axle and put 11 uncaged balls on each side replacing the caged ball which had 7 balls each. Cups were in perfect shape.

Thanks everyone!
I am learning that building a modern bike is a lot more involved in some ways than the 'good ole days'!
I am all set with cranks now! The alphabet soup of options just is boggling... But at least when it is done, i will have a bike that 'means' something to me. Crap! I'd better enjoy it!!!
