Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've said recently that I need another bike like I need a hole in the head, and that's still true. But I feel like I need a project. The Circuit is almost done, the Dura Ace hubs have been built into new wheels for the Ritchey. I may revisit the Lotus Supreme - it's accumulating rust in a couple places that is cosmetically unattractive without being structural. But one thing I've really enjoyed before, a couple times, is building a bike up from a frame. The Battaglin was such a project - bought as a frame, stripped and repainted, and then put together over several months of scouring Ebay for parts. The Litespeed - well, you all got to see the progression through 3 builds before it reached its final stage.

I mentioned having a nearly complete 7410 Dura Ace groupset just sitting in a box, and trying to figure out what frame I'd use to build up a bike with it. Well, I'm closing in on that. If I actually do drop the coin on it, I'll let you know, but essentially at the moment the frame is painted, not with the maker's name, but rather with a team name. But it is unmistakably that maker's work, So, like the Battaglin, I'd want to repaint it. The question is, would I do that work myself? Not the stripping, which I'd have done somewhere nearby, but the whole process, which I think would require masking, etc. Now that I've built a set of wheels, I'd build one for this bike, too.

Stay tuned.

Zwift going up from 15 to 20 bucks/month. I'm on it so much these days that I feel like it will still be a good value for me. Should come out to around 50 cents per ride.

Someone inverted my bike while I was replacing a punctured tube this a.m. I didn't like doing that even before hydraulic brakes. Fortunately, I'm pretty compulsive about filling my reservoirs.

I've never seen more than a few minutes of hail.

Hard to imagine they could withhold the degree for very long if she met the academic requirements.

However, being a former model student, I have no experience with the college disciplinary system.

I really, really dislike hail. The damage to roofs and vehicles cause us all to pay higher insurance rates whether we were affected or not. Given that, I have an appointment this week with my insurance adjuster for the damage we received late February.

This was all small hail so not damaging.

Rock Springs, WY is the closest I've been to the regularly damaging hail zone. When I was working on Cheyenne, just a few hours east, they got it pretty good there, close enough to the plains where a lot of cars had pitted hoods and roofs.

The Wolves defense is unbelievable. I think best in the league for the year. And it looks like they were designed to beat the Nuggets, at least so far.

Been caught in it a couple times on the bike. One time I only had shorts and short sleeves and it felt like I was being shot by hundreds of BB guns. When I got off the bike my skin was bright red.
It's rare in the L.A. area and never very big. In the mountains I thought it was going to break the windshield in my Subaru. It was marble size, I think.

Nice ride today and we did the route of the Acton road race as part of the ride. SoCal Dino Riders put up that picture yesterday and also a map of the race route.
Turns out my friends had done the race back in the early 80s. He won the cat 4 race and she beat the only 2 other women who showed up. 2 laps for the cat 4s was 50 miles and about 3400 feet of climbing.

All the times we've ridden through there they never mentioned having done the race.

My neighborhood was hurt back in February. All I hear during the day is hammering; roofs, gutters and siding. My siding is holed, roof ruined, etc. The lady across the street had a 10 year old large Chrysler that was in cherry condition and the insurance company totaled it. We were in AZ at the time so I never got to see it. I saw pics and the hail was still covering the ground in the morning despite the hail happening overnight.

Neighbor sent me some pics. This is one of the side. The back of the house is similar.

30 days of hell begins. My bike makes all kinds of weird noises on this trainer. Sounds like the BB makes a clicking noise, the chain makes all kinds of loud noises depending on the cog I am on. gross.

Datlas sorry about your daughter. Hope it works out for her.

Glad the dougs are still alive.

Trainsnorter, hope you are doing better, and did you ever get the domane E bike.
