Updating a 26" Litespeed - More Fork Travel
Is going from an 80mm travel fork to 160mm too much?
I'm updating a 2004 Litespeed Tanasi.
The bike originally came with an 80mm travel fork.
How much is too much to increase the travel when buying a modern fork?
I would like to go with a Fox Factory fork. The only travel options that meet the requirements of a 26" wheel and 1 1/8" steerer tube are 100mm and 160mm.
The frame is a hard tail. I would like the added travel of the 160mm, but not sure if it would throw off the steering geometry too much.
Thanks for any input!

Going to 100mm would be the safer bet, -- since the frame is obviously a XC frame. 160mm is endure bike territory

I wouldnt go that much. If anything 100mm would probably be your max.
Most xc forks can convert to 120mm if you must but i think 100mm is what youre looking for....or a new bike

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like 100mm it is.
Chatted with Litespeed tech and they said 100mm would be the max to go with too.
Now, does anyone know where to get a good deal on Fox forks? It looks like any new Factory version is at least $1K.

PinkBike has an excellent "for sale" forum where you should be able to find a straight steerer tube Fox for less. Also, there are Usually a few of those forks on eBay. $250 to $500 is a more likely price.
