a real loss, I'm really sorry to hear this. He talked about his engineering background often, but I don't remember any posts referring to his love of the water. There's a Bike Forums Wall of Remembrance thread and the loss of genec should be posted there as well. Thanks JW Fas

So sudden and tragic! I was just wondering about him yesterday because we were discussing the original self-driving cars thread in Foo (a roundabout way of saying, he is already missed)

I am stunned. Trying to deal with this. I never met him personally but he was great to talk to since 2018 when I came aboard. Sharing his tastes in music and his vinyl collection was cool. His sailboats are awesome as well and his dislike for the cheap beer I drink. Too young to go.

He described himself: Been a bike rider since I was 9 years old. Rode my bike to elementary school. Was cycling commuter for over 35 years. Have done some cyclotouring; various areas along the west coast and all the way down Baja. Have also had the opportunity to ride bikes in other countries... and indeed things are different. Keep spinning! https://www.bikeforums.net/members/genec-17991.html

Died doing what he loved. If I go on the bike, I hope the emergency responders find the card I carry in my wallet that says that it is not a tragedy; I died doing what I love.
A few years back on a forum that no longer exists there was a fellow who regularly talked of each ride being a gift after his heart attack. One day his wife came on, thanked us all and said he'd died doing what he loved.
