Thank you for all the replies. The rims are clean, just satiny. I'll live with how they are. Seems like a lot of work to get to "shiny" especially since I just finished building them into wheels.

Maybe it's the angle but that drive side crank looked different to me. Yes, cantilever brakes can be tricky sometimes, but study how everything works and it should become intuitive. Enjoy the bike!
