I forgot to mention that I came upon a group of four javelinas on this morning’s ride. I cut them as wide a berth as I could, seeing as how I was almost upon them before I saw them. In Belize they were respected as a possible threat, at least to dogs. Don’t know about humans.

I didn't even attend graduation at high school. I hated school so much I wanted nothing to do with it. Graduated on the half year when you could still do that. Before that they had fall/spring grads. I snuck out after they officially eliminated it but you could do it if you had the credits.
My mother complained (briefly) about not going to a graduation but she did have 6 others to attend.

I was a model student in the Vocational portion of my schedule. I credit my sister for helping me to learn how to read long before kindergarten, for getting through the rest of it.
Early memory alert: One of my first memories was both wondering why kids were crying in the corner on the first day of school, and another was asking Mom why no one wanted to read there.

I went to my college graduation but it was weird for a couple reasons. First, I was pretty hungover, the cycling team had their semester-end "tour de franzia", where we would get drunk on box wine and cruised around the neighborhood on beater bikes. I am happy to report that I am now much more capable cyclist and wine drinker
. Second reason was because I had some brief romance with a chemistry classmate, and things didn't work out and were a bit awkward. Still had a crush on her too. Holly was her name.
*Competent. I'm a much more competent cyclist and wine drinker. That's a better word than capable in this context

1969. We had our own little peaceful demonstration at the university . . . for a day . . . then we they decided to occupy a building . . . the chapel no less at a southern baptist school. It thought it was a pretty ballsy move at first for an all-black student body in Texas . . . in 1969 . . . but I eventually joined the protestors. After a couple of days they brought in the police to clear the building.
Thankfully there was no violence or mishap. Most of us, including myself, were released after an overnight stay in the pokey. The ring leaders of the protest got jailed for a couple of days before being released and suspended from school for the rest of the semester. Those were the days, my friend . . . civil rights and Viet Nam were the hot button issues of the time.

I went as a favor to my parents.

If my mother had pressed the issue I may have gone to the ceremony. My father had given up on me and he wasn't into the whole thing anyway.

Wrapped my first handlebar of the season yesterday, down at the shop. Somewhat surprising I hadn't had to do it before then.

My preferred tape for final wrapping (once I'm happy with things like brake lever placement, cable runs etc.) is Fizik Microtex 2mm. It has a nice leathery look while also being reasonably tough. It's minimally stretchy so it takes some effort to wrap cleanly, but I never worry about it tearing.

I went to all of my college graduation ceremonies. Mrs. rjones28 went to none of hers.
