back in the 70’s I was a kid with little money (as opposed to today: adult in the 2020’s with little money)
i would often scan the JC Whitney catalogs looking at stuff … looking for a ‘bargain’
ordered a no-name air filter element for my dirt bike (Yamaha LT3-MX) … price was right … a week or so later it arrived: a genuine Filtron filter - and with a small tube of Filtron filter oil … JC Whitney for the win !

Another guy had a Triumph in a Trackmaster and a Rickman Montessa. I got to ride them and my flat track friend's Ossa. Just made me want one more.

Whenever a new edition of the J C Whitney catalogue came out, I would go through the whole thing page by page looking for the latest bargains. Those were the days

The J C Whitney catalog was a must-have for MG owners.

I always found the 109hp in my '86 GTI felt like plenty. It was also pretty immediate. - getting into gaps in traffic on the freeway was a blast - point it, apply the right pressure to the accelerator, and you're in the space.

Indeed. Although I confess, I was very surprised when the new hood (convertible top) arrived, and it was nowhere near a simple job to fit. I ended up taking it to an upholstery shop, where the owner spent a large chunk of a Friday evening fitting it.

Hard to tell what type of bike. Here's Ned's ride on Strava. Much of it on a trail, so probably a MTB.

The only time it feels zippy is when it needs to. It reminds me of the PDG Paramount. Step on it and it goes. No hesitation

long time snowmobiler - so I was familiar with CVT transmissions … sorta / kinda
we have one car with a CVT - was not looking forward to it but actually not too bad … sorta / kinda … when applying the brakes on a descent it will ‘down shift’ ( instead of just freewheeling
)… sorta / kinda … and it has a ‘sport mode’
that reduces the ‘rubber band’ effect … sorta / kinda

We took the public bus to/from Griffith Park/Observatory. The route included a few miles along Hollywood Blvd. The strip feels like a big tourist trap.

Reminds me of a motorcycle some guys built years ago. They took a YZ250 mx bike and removed the transmission and put a hydraulic pump in it's place. This was connected to another smaller pump on the rear wheel. It allowed the peaky 2 stroke to stay in the rpm range where the power was greatest. I thought it was fascinating.

She is a mixed bag of emotions. It sounds like the “charges” against her by USC may take several weeks before a final status/decusion is made. In the meantime she is flying out to Cannes today.
We are staying here until Friday. We are going to see the Angels take on the Pirates tomorrow as Mrs datlas is a big snoozeball fan and wants to check-the-box for every MLB park. We already saw the Dodgers last trip.
