How do you keep track of your altitude? I use Map My Ride, but it seems to give me the numbers whether I go up or down...

For MapMyRide, wait for the Split data to load. When done, swipe the map to the left and the total climbing elevation gained is listed on the second page.

If all it did was to list the sum of the ascents and subtracted the descents, I would always have zero since I start and end at the same place

Then I list them here and daily add them together.

I get my elevation information from Strava. After I sync the ride, I can go to the website, and get all the pertinent information. Now, I will say that I find it somewhat funny that on the same ride, I'll get different elevation numbers.

I did not know that! Thanks for the info. So, the number I am looking at is "Gain" right?

I have noticed small discrepancies like that in MMR as well. But nothing is 100% accurate... Here is the list of all my rides this month so far, now with altitude gain... Mind you, I have been trying to commute to work, that is why you see a bunch of multiple ride days. Usually once in the AM with my buddy, and twice after, once to work and once home... Or just to work and home again. lol.

Was tempted to count the 3 miles walking to a light rail station pushing a bike with a flat tire. That's what I get for remembering to bring along a spare tube but forgetting the pump.

June 3 - 22.3 miles

June 7 - 11.9 miles
June 9 - 25.4 miles
June 11 - 3.9 miles
June 13 -30.1 miles
June 16 - 22.0 miles
June 18 - 23.2 miles

Total 138.6, Goal 300. Planned route would have taken me to the halfway point til the flat.

Been there, done that. Except I was a little over 5 miles from home with nobody to call for a ride. Ever since I've kept my pump 'mounted' on my top tube with two strips of Velcro.

6/19: 5 miles- Ride along the river with the kid before dinner. We rode up on a family of geese and the mama (i assume as it was the bigger one) started flapping her wings towards us. Damn overprotective moms...

Hoping for an early morning 65 ish mile ride tomorrow before my daughter's birthday party. Hard to believe she's turning 10 this year, time flies.

My daughter turned 10 today so today's ride was our traditional birthday Tour de Ice Cream. Four ice cream stops, 80F Sunny weather, 14.2m/h average moving speed. The kid's endurance is clearly improving, she's no longer going out fast and running out of gas early-today's ride was twice as long as last year's.
