Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Although it's not like I ride long distances anymore - I don't think I've done more than 80 miles at once in the last 3 years.

I'd like to do another 200k. The local-ish group really likes to climb, their April 200k looks like a nice route.
Good heavens. Yes they do like to climb.

Next Saturday's 200k is a bit more climbing than yesterday, but it should be doable. I think it'll be too cold to ride to it, but we'll see closed to the day.

The terrain is beautiful. After having driven through the Rockies three times over the years I finally got the opportunity to explore and scratch it off my list. Awesome!

Taken from the NCAR trail.

Until seeing the last line I was going to ask if that was Chautauqua above Boulder, but I guess that's why the angle looked slightly off.

The road up to the lab is a fine one for intervals. Not much of a climb though. Neat view though!

I was referring to her as an actor. Every Julia Roberts character looks the same, and she has not taken any chances lately to set herself apart. It doesn't seem like many roles are heading her way.

I actually rode the route up the backside of Flagstaff a few weeks ago. Some goofy dirt road that dumped us up by the amphitheater. A buddy of mine knows all these backroads up there.

Growing up, there were always A-10s flying around over Watertown at an altitude of a few hundred feet.

Air shows are why I am in this career path, but my obsession when I was little was with WWII aircraft. Specifically german aircraft. Everyone drools over the P-51 but to me FW-190 was a work of art.

Spitfire also makes the P-51 look boring.

Emergency 24 hour vet yesterday with “younger” dog (aged 12). Severe case of cellulitis in his foot, high fever, $1100 bucks for a blood test, vet visit, gabapentin and antibiotics. Happy new year to me.

It was a nice teachable moment for the girls though. They got to understand how expensive a dog could be and that they shouldn’t get one until they are in a position to drop a car payment on vet bills without it being an undue burden financially.

Alternatively, they shouldn't get a car for which the monthly payment is as high as an emergency vet bill.

that too- but their first car is going to be the old grandma Passat currently sitting in my driveway. It’ll be 11 by then, but that’s plenty new.

Two summers back - maybe more? Rango got really sick - couldn't keep food down, then wouldn't eat. On Friday afternoon, of course! Regular vet couldn't see him, so we ended up taking him to the emergency vet. He was there at least 2 days, maybe as many as 4. That was pricey.

Pancreatitis was the diagnosis, but they noticed some little dark lines on his X-ray, which they thought might be wires. We concluded he'd gotten into the dripping pan below the gas grill, which I clean with wire brushes. The bristles break off, fall into the grease pan. Then Rango ingested them, and they worked their way through his stomach wall, maybe? So, now there's an Ex Pen around the grill.
