Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had a folding cane in my jersey pocket, couldn’t walk without it. For the first week or so, I needed help getting on and off the bike. Thank goodness for club rides—and helpful spouses.

Thanks for the clarification.

My light bulb on your user name didn't light up until now. Oh well. Guess this is what it's like to be a Boomer.

This guy had trouble getting off the bike, too. One time we stopped before the last climb (Santa Susana Pass) and he struggled getting off and back on. He then dropped some of us on that climb.
When I met him he was about 44 and one of the best climbers in the club, 6 feet and 140 pounds. He's now 78 and still riding but mostly solo. Always enjoyed riding with him, he could crack me up.

He has a back up bike but said he can't keep up with his group on it. This guy is pretty fast and it's hard to believe the bike is making that much difference.

Anyway he went off on an anti Shimano rant about how he'll never buy Shimano again, I hate Shimano, etc. etc. Says he has to buy a new bike right away so he can ride with friends, etc. Next day he sends a pic of a Canyon that he ordered and it has Dura Ace DI2. WTF? Next day after ordering the Canyon he writes my friend and says the new crank came in for his Tarmac.
I hate it when that happens....

People wearing all black and walking in the middle of the road deserve what ever happens to them. My neighborhood has a sidewalk, and lately more and more people just walk in the middle of the damn road. Almost took out this old couple this morning, and they scream at me like I am the problem. WTF.

The lady that almost clothes lined me last week with he dog leash going across the whole road. It’s not a narrow road. Yesterday I’m driving to the store she is walking down the middle of the road with her dog and I could not get around her. She was completely oblivious. It’s a .25 mile of being stuck behind her at 4 mph. 3 cars behind me. Heaven forbid I honk my horn and she goes into cardiac arrest.

Not a narrow street. One person walking takes up the whole road?

Hoping once I get the Seven fixed up a bit I can do some things to the KHS. Tires, shock rebuild, new drivetrain should run about $600?
Oops, forgot pedals. Right pedal got super loose on the shaft so I started using an old beat up pair which I have trouble clipping into because the left one has been bashed on too many rocks.
I will make an excuse for you … you ride a lot

keep on keeping on … money well spent … consider the maintenance costs as an investment in your health and well being

have a recalled (?) 6800 crank on one of my bikes

recently inspected it when I replaced the 50t big ring with a 46t … looked fine … applied grease around the areas where the ring and fasteners contact the crank - maybe that will help .. ? .. (but could invite corrosion or whatever )

prob will have no issues given the manner the bike is ridden and conditions - but I’d rather just have a replacement

I would rather have a new bike. I wonder if I told Mrs Bam that my emonda is infected with diseased shimano parts she would let me get a new one?

No tie here, but I do have an In a Silent Way T-shirt. My favorite album.

I have been looking for an opportunity to wear the T-shirt with a suit for style points. I'm thinking my navy blue wool suit, pin the pants to be "no break", and accompany with Tom Cruise shades and some fresh sneakers. Man that would be so cool. Some sort of snazzy afternoon jazz event would do the trick. Someday.

Also - cool meeting one of the Marsalis'! Accomplished classical musician as well.
