I've been looking to pick up a Trek 970 , in my frame size . One came up recently in my area but it needs new tires , and probably an overhaul and he's asking $350 which I think is a bit high. it does have the lugs, which i think are cool, but factoring in new tires, overhaul, and I'll probably change out the handle bars to Moloko, or Jones, I'm not sure ..?
That seems a bit high to me, usually if you are patient, you'll see them for $50-$150 eventually. Because they still look like 'old mtb' to many, they can fly under the radar for a lot of people.

I picked up a minty 950 in a medium frame for my son for just $120. Just needed repacking bearings and brakes adjusted .

We have a few in our area for sale, and they are between $80-$300 or so. Very nice if you happen across a good deal on one! Yes large size is harder to find. Good luck with your search - you will find one!

I'm inclined to agree. And this thread is timely, because this just showed up in my backyard and was such a good deal that I absolutelyhad to grab it. It was even less than my estimation in my post above, about 6-8 Starbucks drinks -
