Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Washing after (or before) you pee seems like mainly a good way of making sure you clean your hands a few times a day.

We now rely on hand cleaner, which is full of moisturizing agents. There is a dispenser outside every clinic or inpatient unit and each room within, and doctrine is to use it each time you pass the threshold in either direction. My hands are baby soft after a week on service.

Nice! It's only unridden once. It's always good to get that pic.

I hope the diagnosis is quick and things work out.

I did my usual 59 mile Sunday route today. I took the Canyon, which has been clamped on the trainer for weeks now. I wanted to experience it IRL for a change. Wow, is it a NICE bike! Comfy, fast, stiff - pretty near perfect! It was one of those days where if you start out too early, you put on too many layers and end up either sweat soaked or carrying the extras. As it was, I felt underdressed for most of the first 6 miles, but once I got out of the San Mateo Creek canyon, it was much better.

I noticed that now, with winter only days away, the first green shoots are appearing. Soon, the golden brown of Summer and Fall will be replaced with the lush green of Winter.

California is weird. But I like that.

Before is such an underlooked thing - I won't say I do it every time but once I started thinking about it on road trips, I'm like "yeah, I'm going to wash my hands after touching the gas pump and before touching that".

Then again after of course too.

The old Velo Vol would have said "wut".

But seeing that we've already received more rain in December than in the three months prior, I might as well acknowledge that I've become a quasi-west coaster.

Assuming the electricity and water continued to work, if the biggest Knox County December snowstorm in the last 50 years hit overnight, I would have no problem sheltering in place for several days until help arrived.

If a 50-year storm hits, that wouldn't be much of an emergency plan. Ask me how I know.

I doubt that "help" would arrive at VeloVol's house just because it snowed.

When in Geauga county Ohio from 2000 - 2011, I lived in the vicinity of the 4th largest Amish community in the USA and I can attest to their good baking skills.

I do. That was in March. It's December. Decembers generally aren't very snowy. My readiness plan factors this in. #MOTD
