Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

True. WARNING: Techno explanation below.

The "standard" HRV number is in units of milliseconds, and it's a measure of how much your heart rate changes from beat to beat. The science folks compute a standard number called "rMSSD", which stands for "root mean square of successive differences between normal heartbeats".

The HRV4Training app shows a logarithmic transformation of this rMSSD number, which they claim "is simply a more user friendly transformation of your rMSSD". It seems to me they just added additional confusion, but what do I know?

This cyclist fatality last night stings -- it's on the route I once biked daily to and from school.

Cyclist waits in left turn lane for a green arrow, driver hits her from behind, cyclist lands in intersection and is struck by two more drivers. Speed limit 25 mph.

Police: Bicyclist killed after being struck by three drivers on Embarcadero

Yeah, right. They're Pirelli P Zero TL 26s. Fatter than 19s I would have been riding in the '80s.

My brother's Simca 1000 was unable to stay above the minimum speed on the PA Turnpike on a lot of the uphill bits, so we had to get in the slow lane with the trucks, with our flashers on. It really was a gutless piece of ****. Quite a comedown from his previous car, which was a 1951 DeSoto with the first iteration of the Hemi.

No, but it's pretty damn busy and the speed limit is 75 which is scary when the cars are whizzing by.

I used to do a ride that included about 1 mile on I-280 through Burlingame. There's no other surface road to do that stretch, and California law says if there's no regular road or street alternative you may ride on the shoulder of the freeway, between exits. Traffic on 280 generally goes 75-80 mph, so even riding on the far right edge of the shoulder was fairly terrifying.

I don't think I ever mentioned this to Mrs. GeneJockey until years after I'd stopped taking that route.

That's a way more flattering pic than the one taken while in the hot seat waiting for others to finish. The man is a heck of a time trialist. BTW, UAE went 1-2-3.

The power outage problem was located. An overloaded transformer that keeps blowing fuses. The federal electricity commission, a state owned entity. Is not interested in repairing it. Qtf? Wrf? In English

up until now, I have been a member of that class. I dabbled a bit in gravel, over the last few years. That 414 is made for gravel. Once I figured out it doesn’t have the death fork it became more enjoyable.
