could have. initial plan was to nibble on the la habra hills and veer over to/investigate the green river area. carbon canyon called tho and messed up that plan.
given the daylight hours, wanting to do a century and a semi-direct line to the train stations along the 5 freeway, opted to blow off the green river area for now.
will probably be more likely for me to train up to anaheim to hit it or drive up to lake matthews/corona area and plod along from the other side.

I did the Fern Truck Trail loop today for lunch coming up from the JPL side and exiting out Rising Hill Road. My legs felt sore going up, since I haven't done the trail in a few months!

Rode with some youngsters up to the Griffith Observatory this morning! Afterwards we had beers, fries and taquitos at Spitz on Hillhurst! The ride home was a bit groggy though, I felt like taking a nap!

Knocked out 30 miles with my cycling buddies this Friday after being on hiatus for a few days due to a bad flare up of seasonal allergies. My buddies had been riding hard all week and I felt it through our pace, but once my body acclimated, I made sure the younger guys I was riding with suffered on the hill climbs once I started riding OOS!

Friday rode up the SGRT, crossed Arrow Hwy then went west to the trail end at the City of Hope. Clicked off the gravel section by connecting to Duarte then west to California St., down to Peck park and the upper Rio Hondo trail. Down & across Siphon Rd. back down the SGRT to home.
This am rode up Carbon Cyn Road from the Lambert end (entire road is redone curb-to-curb the pavement is pristine). Want a leg burner? After the switchbacks hang a right on Old Carbon Canyon Rd then a right up up & away on Carriage Hills Road, right onto Promontory then back down to C C Rd. Not much traffic both ways beautiful crisp fall morning.

Six Canyons Ride
Small world as I was up in the Santa Fe Dam area Friday and on Carbon Cyn Rd today.
Completed my Six Canyons Ride this afternoon.
Started from home and touched or rode through Powder, Brea, Tonner, Soquel, Carbon and Turnbull Canyons.
Fresh morning starting in the low 60's and finishing in the mid 70's. Feeling stronger and aiming to achieve 150 miles and 15K of climb per week.
59 miles and 5550 feet of climb today. Will add Vantage Pointe (Rowland Hgts) to this route to make it a true metric century with 6600 feet of climb.

Ha! It took many rides to get that down to what I would consider to be decent roads with good climbs and bike lanes or minimal traffic.
Carbon Cyn was sweet although there was a fair amount of traffic; motorists were being civil with the Sharrow lanes.

Today I rode 20 miles of road and off-road terrain. Air quality and sunny weather was perfect after the Monday rain! I found myself a nice "gravel" riding spot near my house. You know it's fun when you're smiling on the fast muddy downhill and look forward to carrying your bike up a steep hillside!

Idyllwild virtually ...
My motivation to ride more of the SoCal hills often from viewing Safa's vid's and he has bombed down most of the best from SB to Palomar. The Idyllwild is pretty cool since it involves both road and gravel and has some great scenery as they use a drone.

Im sure some of you all will also enjoy this vid

and a taco shop stop. been too busy to ride much lately but a beautiful fall day and was in zero hurry to return home.

I haven't done much riding this week. The colder/dry air is flaring up my allergies and also causing me to cough after hard rides. Summer this isn't an issue, but every winter it seems it's a problem with me here in LA. I must be getting old!

^^^^^ My friend is an NP and shared that the clinics are full of allergy sufferers due to the inversion layers increasing allergens and poor air quality.

Today I did Griffith Observatory with my buddy, but I only rode at 80% to keep my sinuses and air passages from flaring up. I even had my inhaler with me just in case. On the bright side I added new carbon wheels, an ultra lightweight cassette (226g) and new KMC chain. Shifting was crisp and I rode up the Ferndell Observatory route without ever dropping into my small chainring. We looped back down towards the LA Zoo and back to the ponies. I still had energy to do a second round!
On the downside, looking towards the east side of Glendale, Pasadena, Eagle Rock, etc. was a huge, dark grey smog cloud. No wonder my breathing is suffering this time of year!

Sunday morning ride up to the Hollywood sign. My bike buddies think I'm nuts, but I truly enjoy riding uphill on hot/sunny days! It totally makes you appreciate living in in S. Cal!

2 hours in the dirt yesterday afternoon, including the Cherry Canyon loop. For the first time in a long time I was able to get outside on my bike twice last week. Recently, it's been just 1 trainer session on a weekday evening.

Cool & semi-foggy thru Santiago Canyon this morning although the sun peeked out between Modjeska Cyn Rd and the Gertner summit. Then back down into the marine layer through Lake Forest, Irvine etc. Aside from the San Diego & Peters Canyon Trails & a short stretch on the SART passed only a couple cyclists. Early morning solitude was nice.

Friday I rode 27 miles from my house to Fern Truck Trail near JPL. In addition I bumped into some wildlife on the trail, thankfully none with sharp teeth! Also the MTB'ers are always surprised I ride a "road bike" up the trail!
To be honest I'm surprised other gravel bikes can climb this trail properly. I'm running a 2x 46:30t and an 11-42t + GoatLink, so my low gear is 30:42 and it's still a workout! Running a 1x gravel bike you'd need something like a 38t + 11-50t to match my gear ratio. I'm helping a friend swap out his groupset with something with better climbing, but even then, he'd have to run a fairly big cassette while still having a decent high gear when we ride the streets.
