Do whatever you please with your stem caps. But realize they serve absolutely no practical purpose.

I'm not "everyone", but if I ever bought a bike with a dork disc, it would get removed before I rode it the first time. Lawyer tabs have been filed off on all my bikes that have had them since I bought my first good bike in 1990. I know how to properly use a quick-release.

Recently on BF, a dork disc might have saved a "needlessly contentious" individual from having to pay for his negligence.

Heck, I have been on enough club rides where I helped someone change a flat and when I pulled open their QR, it was frighteningly loose.

My take on dork discs is this. On a new bike, I won't bother to remove it as I like triggering the "real road cyclists". However, once it breaks, I take it off and don't bother to replace it.

For me, it's a minor irritation that is easily remedied, and then no longer a minor irritation. I find the mounting of disc brake wheels with thru-bolt axles to be irritating in the same kind of way, but there isn't really a way to resolve that, and there are benefits to the thru-axle design. The quick release is elegant in its functional simplicity. The lawyer tabs kind of defeat the simplicity. (IMO, YMMV).

"Minor" is an important word in my comment. Presta valve stem caps are in the same category, and even easier to remedy than lawyer tabs.

Funny how "needlessly contentious" becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The caps are annoying because I have to remember to stuff them and the threaded lockring into my jersey rather than littering, and then they end up in the washer and my wife wonders what the hell they are.

Wait for a pee break, then put them on someone else's bike when they're not looking.

Do new bikes ship from the manufacturer without them, since the tube has already been installed? Do the manufacturers agree that they are "completely useless" and leave them off, or will I see valve caps on brand new bikes at a bike shop?

Or you could just put them both on the valve stem - that's about as convenient a place to put them as you'll find, and you don't have to remember anything at all. Plus you'll find the lockring makes it easier to attach a pump.

I know more about my personal preferences than a bike shop. One of those preferences is not to have to fiddle around with valve stem caps on presta valves every time I need to top-off tire pressure, which is pretty much every ride.

I could, but then I'd have to take the silly useless cap off, and put it back on every time I want to bring my tires back up to the proper pressure, and if I get a flat out on the road I have TWO silly useless caps and TWO silly useless lockrings to deal with, generally while working in the cold and wet (because flats happen more often then) with cold-numbed, clumsy fingers.
