Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not much intelligence to be found on a bicycle, human or artificial.

Speaking of baseball, I'm gonna go see a Padres game on Sunday with some buddies. Vs the Dodgers, who have a star-studded lineup. There will probably be more blue and white than Padres colors at Petco park lol. But, if you're ever visiting, the stadium grounds are quite nice and there is tons of good food and drink all over the place. It's always a fun time.

Dodgers Padres game sounds good

for watch Ohtani alone

Padres also have a fairly star studded $$$ lineup - including Tatis etc - although maybe less this season compared to last season

I used chatgpt for the first time. I couldn’t come up with the term ‘induction ‘ in the electromagnetic sense. I could use it many times a day for just this.

Tinker Juarez won the 50+ Masters race at age 63. Information is still sketchy but it seems it's 75 miles with 12K feet of gain. OMG.

I think this race was near Valencia, Spain.

I will warn you - AI's will lie to you. I experienced this just the other day with one we're evaluating. It confidently told me something that's complete *********.

There's a R&D group here doing some really cutting edge inorganic nanomaterial synthesis for a huge commercial client in the screen technology space. Very precise dimensions, materials and morphologies with specific optical properties. They are trialing some chemistry AI software program and just dumped a ton of tabulated reactions in there, and it churned out some really helpful experimental ideas pretty quickly. Nonw of the technique nuances of course, but most of them are talented chemists so what they needed was some reagent optimization, and I guess it worked.

I think AI solutions for specific, tailored applications are starting to come up to speed.

Not too shabby.

In other old guy news, Ned Overend, 68, placed 15th of 71 in last year's Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. In the Men's Pro category.

Tinker Juarez and Ned Overand, absolute legends.

I've raced Big Bear's Grizzly 100 MTB a couple times, 100k with 10,000'+ vertical at an average elevation of 9,000' - tough event. One year, Tinker raced the 75k (prob a recovery ride for him) which started after the 100k wave. On the long, twisty downhill single track of the Santa Ana river, Tinker came flyin' past me like I was standing still. Such a good MTBer (obviously).

I was trying to figure out what the course was yesterday as well. His Strava shows 30miles 3290 feet. Apparently the big 100 mile race there is June 1

We were resting at Dawson Saddle in the San Gabriels @7900 feet when Tinker came cruising up the 5 mile climb from the east side. Looked relaxed, not breathing hard, smiled and said hello, then bombed down the other side. A couple minutes later a young guy came up, panting and asked how far ahead Tinker was. We told him at least 2 minutes. He uttered some swear words and took off. He wasn't going to catch him unless Tinker stopped.

A-ha. Guess he kept his race activity private. Maybe doesn't want competitors to know what they're up against when they race him
