Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Last week, I was throwing a toy for Dory, and accidentally hit the TV, which was off at the time. Later, when we turned it on, there was a strange band across the middle, and coming down from the top. I looked closely at the point where these two crossed. Cracked. Son of a *****. I busted the TV. It's too bad - it was only about 4-5 years old and did pretty much everything you need a TV to do these days.

So, since I'm taking this week off, the other day I finally had time to run to Best Buy and get a replacement. Same size (50"), same brand (Samsung), pretty much same price (~$450)

Since then, I keep getting emails from Best Buy, telling me about great deals on TVs. I'm bemused at the marketing behind this. "You just bought a TV! You must like TVs! Here are MORE TVs you can buy!!" I see this over and over - I buy something I really only need one of, and then I get solicitations to buy MORE of whatever it was! "Got a new stove? You must like stoves! Here are more stoves you can buy!" "Just bought new tires for your care? Here's a special deal on MORE new tires!"

I could see it if you bought a new TV and they sent offers on video games or streaming services, or if you bought a new stove and they sent offers on new cookware. But why send offers for the exact thing I no longer need to buy?

Speaking of taking the week off, my initial hope was to get in some nice rides, since it's almost Spring. Indeed, it actually IS "Meteorological Spring"! So, of course, Monday and Tuesday, it rained. And I'm currently plagued by some pain in the muscles/tendons around my left hip. This is getting to be a recurring problem, maybe every year or two. So, I've been resting it - so I'm Jonesing for a ride, AND Rango keeps bugging me to take him for a walk, since obviously today is Saturday again (10 AM and I haven't gone to work). I thought I might ride today, but then I look outside, and it's kinda breezy. So I look at the weather forecast:

I ain't riding in no 40 mph gusty winds. So, even though the sky is cloudless, the most I'll do is a ride ITG.

Could be worse, could be in SoCal:

I wanted to do Mt. Hamilton today, but the winds are gusting to 50 now. A more sheltered ride sounds better, like somewhere in the redwoods. Kings Mountain, maybe.

Zwift "Big Spin" ride again this morning. Got the earphones this time.

Did it on my IRL TT bike with zero resistance so I could get some time in position. My club has their next TT in about a month so I will try to ride my TT bike twice per week until then, one of them being outdoors and harder, other indoors and light. I missed the first one since it was too close to my hernia surgery.

Also there seems to be a lot if interest in the district SCNCA TTT this year. I've done it most years since 2019 and even won an elite title in it once.

I think we will have enough riders to field two 4 man teams, nice. If anyone here has a TT bike and is interested, I highly recommend trying TTT. It's such a neat, niche discipline. Takes some choreography/practice and discipline. And the hardest part is not your pull but is getting back on the train, takes a 500+w surge to get on the train over 30 MPH

Interesting. I tried the R8100 and R8000. I have not tried the R7000. Never knew they were different sizes.

Might have been some small variance in the print job from what I have.
