Where'd You Ride Today? (New & Improved)

@ jimmuller- I cannibalized the climb to the clouds century. I did the west half. I am very unfamiliar with this area so it was useful that the roads were emblazoned with markers from that ride. A rough approximation would be 4 miles from base to summit and an elevation gain of 1000'. Mile High Rd is the first and hardest part @ 9% for a mile. Other parts are steeper but shorter. The Summit road was recently paved and smooth as glass.
After further research I went through Berlin MA too. In addition, I saw some absolutely beautiful grave markers in Princeton and Boylston. The ones in Bolyston I examined closely and they were made of locally quarried shale, which I saw throughout the ride. You could still see the chisel marks on the backs of them and the fronts were engraved exquisitely. I wouldn't have thought shale would be durable enough to survive 200+ years, but apparently I was wrong. They were very large.
My attempt at photography came up short:

Just rode to the Post Office and the Dr's office today, but yesterday I did the final leg (Wabasha to Red Wing) of the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour.

Did maybe a 12 mile ride on Sunday with my bike club. Fortunately, it was raining so cooler. There was a hill that kicked my backside. Not sure exactly where we went. I was just following the leader. We left from Littlerock Elementary just south of Olympia.
I discovered my '86 Schwinn World does NOT have serious hill climbing low end gears. Never got off my bike and walked alongside it, but I was standing on the pedals and effectively walking my bike up the hill at a couple of points.
Other riders were probably all 10 years my senior, or more, so I was not going to give up or give in. Pride for me probably produced giggles from them. They are all too nice to openly laugh at me struggling along.

kengrubb, I suppose you were riding with the Capitol Bike Club? Great bunch of guys. Tell Scott Wingate that Matt from North Bend said hi next time you see him.
No riding for me yesterday but did take a walk with my wife. Hope to be able to sneak out a few rides while we're here..

Rode from central MA to Burlington, VT over two days this weekend. 88 miles the first day and 102 the second. Kicked my butt. Some pretty gnarly climbs (just over 10,000 ft total climbing) and a humbling average speed of 12.3 mph. The longest ride I had done this year before this weekend was 30 miles...

You have a support stop like that on a 65 mile ride? I need to join that group!

Well sorry they just crappy cell phone pics, from an acient flip phone no less, but I promised pics.
It was threatening rain when I headed out this morning but I went out any way. I quickly mapped a new route hoping it would be a bit flatter than where I have been riding. Unfortunately it was not! Now after reading Ringo's post I can't complain too much about my humble 650ft elevation gain but it was almost twice my other route. One point I climbed just shy of 150ft in 1.5 mile and that is still in town. I missed a turn, I really have to get my GPS to talk to the 'puter, and ended up riding 40 miles most of it really rolling.
OK here are few crappy celphone pics from down along the Susquehanna River.
If you look real close you can just see the dome of the Capitol Building over the trees.
This is the Harvey Taylor Bridge and is a Major route into Harrisburg from the southern suburbs. You can almost make out a gap or pass between the two mountains in the distance. If you drive US Rt 223 north/west from here it is very beautiful drive.
A coupe of private boats docked along the river.
Dark forboding skies!

LaSal mountain loop yesterday afternoon. Great climb, excellent views, technical descent down to the Colorado river then followed the river back to Moab. It was 90 in the shade when I got back to town. I found out I won't melt in hot weather.

Rode to the animal shelter yesterday. Just under 5 miles away so nothing to brag about, but good workout during lunch and I think I found a new dog to bring home. :-D

And thanks for letting me tag along with you on the ride Sunday, John. It was a lot of fun and we didn't even get too wet.

My wife slept in this morning so I left early to say goodbye to arches national park.
No coffee this morning but that is ok.
The sun is just coming up over Moab as I leave town
I climb the switchbacks up to the rocky plateau.
And there are very few cars. It's mine to enjoy by myself
This was simply, the most beautiful ride I have yet encountered. Tomorrow morning I am off to Durango

A Clarion River Ramble...just a pleasant cruise for about 30 miles...stopped near a fence and old building for a glamour shot of my newer build.
