Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've been watching more health videos lately. Interesting stuff, for those who want to be healthy.

Deciding where to ride today and it started raining. Guess I'll wait a while because I'm not going out in 43 degrees while it's raining.

How long can you ride aero hoods on it before some muscle group or other body part tells you to stop?

Not sure. Rode it for the first time this morning, and about 4 miles in I realized my left hood was at a weird angle. Turns out it was loose. I must have death gripped it in the race yesterday that I caused it to loosen. So once I realized that, I stayed off the hoods for the rest of todays ride, I was worried about it slidding down wards and ruining the tape.

It didn’t feel bad at all in the drops or while I was aero on the hoods.

Cat 3/4 was first. Field was lapped within the first 5 laps. Race was over. Group of 6 broke away and no one chased them.

Next up, masters 35/45. Group broke away in the first 5 laps. Race was over.

I felt better in the masters than I did the 3/4. The 3/4 had way too much surging, and a couple of squirly guys must have liked the way I smelled or something. No matter what I did these two were always around me, waiting to take me out.

I was supposed to do 4/5 but the woman’s masters had a really bad accident at the finish. Took out one of our team mates, the other female was unresponsive. I did not see what led up to the crash but I did watch it happen. Literally at the finish line the other team woman went over her bars and landed head first. It was pretty scary. Ambulances had to come which pushed the race schedule. Honeslty I was too tired to do another race. So 4/5 went after I went home and that one had multiple crashes and a team mate broke a collar bone. Glad I didn’t stay.

Raced the El Diablo. Means killer chicken. no skipping or chain brakeage. So all good there.

Put the new stem on tonight, excited to try it out tomorrow.
I'm surprised the Cat 4/5 race was so late in the day. I was under the impression most crits did the Cat 4/5s first.

Mind you, I only have experience setting up/marshalling/tearing down ONE race - the now-defunct Burlingame Criterium. Used to be the Big Event of each year for PenVelo.

My Schwinn is a 22" frame (55-56cm), and I usually ride 58-59. Back when it was still a bike, it had about 1 cm more drop than any of my other bikes. When I was riding it, I could do drops, almost as comfortably as my other bikes. But when I took it out for a 60 mile ride, I got lower back spasms the two days afterwards. Not definitive, but it did convince me to get/make the 23" (57-58) version.
