on my cane creeks i ran about an inch of housing and cable inside the lever and terminated it with a crimp.
if you actually pull on it you have to re crimp it but all you had to do was roll back the hood

I've seen guys run the hood without a lever.
Probably have to use a punch or drill out the pin and there's likely no going back.

You can use a peice of housing and run that housing to a brake caliper.

Not necessarily. You have to punch out the pin to rebuild a Campy Ergo brifter, then you just punch it back in. Cane Creek and a lot of Tektro levers are the exact same shape as 10 speed Campy.
