Belgian finery, Italian drivetrain, Miche seatpost. very very nice.

Belg-Italian goodness, for sure. Two more things right with the world.

Appears Eddy has once again gotten involved with the bike firm, since the sale back to a Belgian brewer.

There is also hint of a new steel frameset in the Merck....er, mix.

Rob, out of all the bikes I've owned, this one is my favorite. Thanks again.

My small, humble, offering to this thread. Feel free to flame me for the pic quality. I'm not the family photog, and yes, it was a little dark in the room. Anyway, onto the bike:
This is now my commuter/beat around bike after my latest purchase (new thread on that coming soon).
1986 Centurion Lemans RS frame set, with bad paint. Makes it easier to park out side at work.
MTB/touring style handlebar stem
wide drop bars (not sure on brand)
Scott aero bars for those days when the breeze blows hard, and I'm tired after work and riding home.
Weinmann XP27 wheels with no name hubs
Michelin Orium x 25mm tires/tubes
Sora 2x9 brifters and RD/FD
Shimano FC2300 crankset
XC MTB pedals, toe clips and straps
Sugino seat post, and an old beat up Brooks B-17 narrow
Strada Cateye wireless (that will soon move over to the new purchase) This bike will get the Bontrager trip 2 put back on
The requisite lights front and rear, Blackburns, tougher than nails BTW. I've personally crash tested them
It also usually has a Bontrager rack on it, but we just got back from a Colorado vacation, and I haven't put it back.

Bangin! That's actually made for the '87 model year, and '87 was the only model year offered in black and yellow, which sold pretty well. OEM was Exage and Light Action, so you've really made yourself a great all-arounder.

There's one of those sitting in my garage right now, with a rack on the back, hard mount front bag, 3x7 RSX. It's my stab at a touring bike for a relative. Color scheme lends itself well to black, yellow, and red accents.

Thanks Robbie. I like it a lot too, especially the color combo. It's a darn good all around beater/commuter bike. It was my only real bike, until last week.

If you really want compatibility, then 8-sp 7400 STI's are the way to go.

However, you can get about any 8-sp STI's (including Microshift) and just swap in a 6400 RD.
It would likely be cheaper in the long run. 6400 tricolor stuff is not that expensive, other than the STI shifters.
Selling the 8-sp DA DT shifters shouldn't be that hard...I'd be interested myself...having the RD and a set of hubs.
Took some time for the parts but here's the end result. Maybe the frame is not vintage enough for this thread, but it did have downtube shifters and dosen't exactly look like modern road bikes either.
I ended up buying the 9 speed dura ace STI's and it's a success with the 8 speed derailleur. Built a new wheelset too.

I'd ride it the hell outta that. Pretty sharp looking bike.

That bike came out great. Best-looking Bianchi I've seen. Some of their multi-color frames are real stinkers. You did a great job.

Thanks x4! Hehe, it's not a Bianchi at all. The brand is Billato, which apparently is an italian frame factory that mostly has manufactured frames for other brands. Previous owner has stickered the Bianchi on it, and I haven't got to peeling it off yet.

Wheels were kind of a dilemma, I wanted plain silver rims and they seem very hard to find on factory made wheelsets; everything is black or white with lots of stickers on them (plus absurd spoke patterns). But I'm very happy I decided to build them myself, it was the last thing I hadn't done before in basic bike maintenance.

Not sure if this counts, but here's a 1993 Giordana Super XL. It's built by Billato from Excell Podium HR tubing (ovalized tubes in the main triangle), a French tubset from the early- to mid-90's. I've seen mixed reviews on the bike, as there are reports that the joints on the chainstays can fail, but I hope it'll stay intact for me.

I picked it up as a relatively unridden (~500 mi) bike, and finally got a chance to rebuild it with an Ultegra triple group I've had sitting in a box. It has a couple of paint blemishes as the chainstays from tire and chain rub, otherwise you'd think it was NOS. Easily the "newest" road frame I've ever owned.

It weighs in at around a pound less than a SLX bike of the same size with an Ultegra double group, but I'm not sure how much of that is due to the frameset.

I haven't had a chance to ride it beyond shake-down rides, but hopefully I'll get a chance to get it out this week.

Not really STI or Ergo, but pretty much the same idea. I wonder why there aren't more of these bikes with Sram components?

Because the SRAM components are the wrong colour (not silver) and very non-traditional looking.
There is a reason I used polished aluminium Campagnolo parts with anodized grey rims and a few other classic looking accessories.
From a distance, nobody can tell it's built up on entirely new components.

It's similar blasphemy fitting a carbon seatpost into a steel frame, or a steel seatpost into a carbon frame.

I believe they called it the backgammon theme, or something like that. There are a few of those frames still available NOS. Frame builders that used that tubing were very complimentary of it.

Probably just early in any trend... I've seen plenty of upgrades with black Campy and dark Shimano stuff, but no migration among C&V owners to SRAM. Could be graphics, could be financial. Polished components to upgrade with are coming from a smaller and smaller market, so you may see more SRAM in the future. Also, 8 and 9 speed stuff pretty much eliminates SRAM...C&V members like to buy used/polished if available.

Thanks, it's even nicer in person, especially as it is pristine other than the chainstays.

I'm curious to see how it climbs (hopefully at lunch tomorrow).

The serial number and recollection of the original owner indicate that it was Gita's first frame built for the '93 model year, and perhaps their first out of Excell tubing (it's a 1993, not 1992 as I originally wrote). I contacted Gita about it but they say they don't have records on s/n's going back that far. I was hoping I could somehow tie it's provenance to Pegoretti but no luck (he probably was involved a few years earlier).

Guess I'll just have to ride it.

'89 Concorde Astore

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, but I thought I'd share my recently rebuilt '89 Concorde. It was actually my dad's, but he found a quicker way to move to STI shifters by upgrading to a somewhat newer aluminium Capo Melle. I loved the original lugged frame and chrome forks so much I decided to replace the original 7sp Shimano 105SC with a more recent triple 10sp 105 5600 group set.

It is a 60cm Astore Columbus Cromor, probably built by Billato, since there is no italian flag on the TT, I believe these were built by Ciocc. It is my first built, and only ride at the moment, but it is a very smooth one!

Just finished - posted it in the Before and After section as well... sorry, but really enjoying this build. This is my frist time cold setting a rear triangle to accommodate 130mm spacing.

1984 Team Fuji that needed some love. All original except the transplanted Shifter/brake levers, rims and RD from a 2009 Motobecane Record.

EDIT - forgot - got this bike with a 1986 Team Fuji in same color pattern... so I was able to steal the yellow brake cable form the '85 to make the shifter cables for this build so they all match (30 yr old cables cleaned up with nice patina...)
