Rule #6 // Free your mind and your legs will follow.Your mind is your worst enemy. Do all your thinking before you start riding your bike. Once the pedals start to turn, wrap yourself in the sensations of the ride – the smell of the air, the sound of the tires, the feeling of flight as the bicycle rolls over the road.

The Rules are both serious and satire. Which way each one tilts may vary depending upon your own attitude about cycling.

"If you lose a KOM, you remember that a KOM means nothing."
This is from a guy who went all over everywhere to beat local KOMs.

My cycling rules are simple:
Rubber side down, at all times.
Safety is king, good tires/brakes/etc
Speed may not be your friend
Never trust the cagers, law of th jungle is cruel
Train how you like
Wear what you want
Don't snicker at Fred,... if he is smiling
Pay it forward when you can

I have occasionally invoked Rule 9. I don’t get many chances living in California, but I’ll get a chance to call it once in a while.
