Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Opinion on CL Bike

Interesting to me, looking for opinions. What's a fair offer...seller looked for $325 before switching to best offer.

The full 105 is interesting to me. Haven't seen it yet to know the flaws.

*******

Vintage 56cm Novara Trionfo road bike.

Lightweight Tange 1 double butted frame with Tange fork.

Everything is Shimano 105 including headset, hubs, brakes, etc...7 speed index shifting.

Rims are Wolber.

Nitto stem and Nitto handlebar.

The frame has some surface rust as shown in the pics. It has a small dinger under the brake cable on the top tube. Very minor and doesn't effect the frame. I took it to my LBS and the frame ckecks out good by the mechanics.

I can get free to me powder coating...

I was thinking, since it's 7 speed SIS, find some NOS RSX shifters (should work right?), convert from downtube, powder coat the frame and fork after cleaning up and refinishing?

I think the $100- 150 guess was about right. It depends a lot on the market. When I was in the midwest I picked up a 1999 Bianchi with Rsx components for $250. Had I brought it to the northwest with me, I probably could have sold it for $500 or more.

$325 seems very high to me, but maybe your local market is different from mine.

Absolutely, should work great to get some RSX (or better) 7-speed STI shifters. The Tange frameset is very very nice to ride.

I'd go $250 to $275, if the frame looks okay inside.
edit: the seller had the frame checked out by mechanics, if I'm reading that correctly?

BTW, I used to have that 105 rear derailleur, and it was very nice shifting. Not light, though.

If the hubs are in very good shape, that's worth some extra money. NOS rears are tough to find for good prices.

Post this over in C & V too, if you haven't yet. They'll be much more up on the current market value of a bike like this.

You could probably buy 6700 shifters on ebay for what you'd pay for NOS RSX shifters.

Seat angle looks super slack. Maybe just the camera angle.

$250 if no internal rust or parts replacement required.

Used bikes are outrageous here...it's amazing.

Duh, of course, thanks. I should have thought of that immediately.
