2010 SoCal Racing Thread
Hi All,
The first SoCal races of the year were actually last week (track and cyclocross). Tomorrow is cyclocross and a time trial. I'll be at the time trial (Tom's Farm).

Anyone coming to the Poor College Kids and Mothballs races? I've signed up for Boulevard also but am thinking I'm probably not going to go,

Tell me about the road race course. Do you have an elevation profile? I've been thinking about going.

It's mostly gradual except for the section's I've marked as "climb out" and "climb back".

hi Cleave
did you think Tom's Farm was windier than usual today?! I did a totally crappy time for me, my slowest ever. I had to leave right away but apparently I won the women's division (found out via txt) since I was the first rider sent off I didn't know if the competition was slack or it was just windy. I usually race w/ power but today ran my disc w/ just a stopwatch.
I am in for both Poor Kids and Mothballs.
Boulevard is a HELL. NO.

I wouldn't say that it was windier than usual but the wind was coming from a direction where it felt bad on the way out and only OK on the way back. I was 48 sec slower than my PR for that course. I have been a lot slower though.
My friend, who is leading the Masters 50+ standings was slower than usual too (but faster than me). He was 5th and I was 6th.

Thanks. yeah, the headwind out was brutal. my time was about :58 seconds off my usual time. I usually have power/speed/cadence etc but today i had nothing but just time elapsed. i know the course well enough to know where I am tho. Still made for some difficult pacing.

No CBR or Poor College Kids for me. I'm starting out the season with a bang by doing the Boulevard/Fiesta/Red Trolley triple. Four laps of Boulevard is going to be borderline inhumane.

Hi,
This coming Sunday is The CBR / BAR Series Race Season Opener (BAR Series #1) in Dominguez Hills, California. Just one race for me this weekend (Masters 50+) to ease my way back into the racing season.
Say, "Hi," if you see me in my pink and blue Lightning Velo kit.

Hi,
Sunday was much better than I expected, even with the very large Masters 50+ and 40+ fields. The pace in the 50+ race was a little uneven and I went off the front a couple of time with some others but I'm in no condition to stay there. Used the 40+ race as training and dropped off the back after turn 1 on the last lap. Ended up with 40 total miles of crit racing at just under 26 MPH average. BTW, no one crashed in either race.
I was shocked at the number of racers in attendance overall. When I got there (around 8:00a) the roads designated for parking were completely full. I ended up parking on University.
Two races up in Santa Barbara this coming weekend. I probably won't go up there. umd knows the courses well so yu can ask him about details.

Just letting you guys know that I have some pictures posted on my website from last Sunday's CBR Series Opener
I have everything but the P/1/2 race. By the way, if anybody has a problem with me leaving the links here, just let me know and it won't happen again. Thanks.

Nice photos. Not enough of me though. I'm always interested to see photos from local races regardless of whether or not I'm in them.

Here are some pics from Mothballs. It's just our main page, and you'll need to scroll down a bit. There were too many links to list separately. (they start with this article.)
umd & I are heading up to Cantua Creek / Pine Flat / Dinuba for the weekend.

Hi,
Keeping this thread alive may be a losing battle.
I raced the Simple Green Criterium yesterday, Masters 50+ and Masters 40+ 1/2/3. Managed pack finishes for both but not much more. The 50+ race was on the slow side and the 40+ race was pretty fast.
I saw mkadam68 ride by but I didn't get a chance to talk to him. I know that other SoCal BF members were there too.
I'll be at Ontario next week. Hope to see some of you there too.

Also did Simple Green. I survived my first Cat 3 race of the year. Not much different that the 30+ 3/4 races CBR used to put on. I struggled throughout the race but was able to hang in there. I did the race to test my fitness level compared to others. Based on yesteday's test results. I have some work to do!!!
See how it goes at Ontario next week.

I was out there on Sunday as well, but still feelin' like a wuss so I only brought the camera. lol I saw Mark out there too, and I think I saw you Cleave (your avatar is tiny, plus you look like someone else on your team so I don't know who is who), but I'm not sure. Since there's no breaks in between races, I don't get the chance to talk to anyone unless they stop by for a visit. The only people I talk to regularly are the other photographers, and we all complained about being hungry and not having the chance to eat!
Ontario for me this week too, but I think I'll ride if I can remember to pay for license and reg. See you guys out there.

Raced the 30+ 1/2/3, it was actually kind of slow (27 mph avg) compared to normal. I felt good and felt I could have raced harder, but there wasn't much point with 20 Amgen's and Schroeder's patrolling the front.
Raced the 3's right after and got taken down when some knucklehead (that's being very nice) went down in front of me for no reason at all (15 minutes in, right in front of the start/finish). Broken collarbone, bruised ribs and stitched up elbow, surgery tomorrow
