Project One - Change Name

Hi everyone -

I just acquired a virtually new (less than 5 miles) Trek Project One. The build is exactly what I was looking for, paint, components, etc....and for half the price because the guy can not ride it. (Injured after he bought it....can not ride.) Full Dura Ace 10sp, Ksyrium SSL, carbon bars, seatpost, stem, look keo pedals.

Anyways, It has his name on the top tube...clear coated over.

I was thinking....paint my name over it on a graphic. (Air brush artist?)....apply a nice high quality custom vinyl sticker?

Anybody have any suggestions that would be durable and nice looking? (Other than changing my name.)

You have Ksyriums, put a Mavic sticker over it.

hehe thats funny. you could look like you are sponno'd. eat some powerbars and then sellotape the wrappers on as well, one on each fork... and don't even get me started on what you could do with some cutouts of the box your shoes came in

Just change your own name to match the name on the bike

CHEERS.

If you want to do it right and spend some money, get a painter that can match color over the exsisting name and then put your name on top of that and clear over that.

I ride ex-pro bikes all the time, never worried about whose name was on it cuz I don't look down at the top tube when I ride. Like Rev says, you want it done right get a painter involved otherwise a cool sticker is ther way to go, something shaped like a nice slim long oval.

I dunno... using an alias has always worked well for me.

But seriously... if you plan to keep the bike, it sounds like Rev.Chuck has the right idea.

I would leave it alone. I have a Project One with writing on the top tube (not my name) and no one ever notice it, even when the bike is standing still. Either it doesn't stand out enough or people don't really look at my top tube. However, if you insist on doing something, you should spend some of the money you saved from your great deal have send your bike to Trek to get the paint scheme customized to your taste.

If you keep the name you have an easy identifier if the bike is stolen...although NOT your name I'm sure you can get a bill of sale form the original owner.

Thanks everyone. I found a lady who does very nice airbrush work. I had an oval in matching trip painted over the name, and then had my name airbrushed on top of that. It looks sharp. It ran 75....now she is MY Bike!

(She works on motorcycles alot...)
