Barrettscv: Thanks for that wonderful report of the Hilly Hundred. I live in Minneapolis and I have been thinking that I want to do that ride one day, but I'm not yet ready for it.

Yesterday I did the local club's weekly Gears, Tears, and Fears ride. I think it's about 1200' of climbing over 32 miles, with about 8 climbs in S Saint Paul. You have to work hard to design a route with that much climbing in these parts. It was my first time on the ride and it felt wonderful. I really like to climb - too bad for me I live in such a flat place. I'm eager to do it again next week.

(As others around here have mentioned, I need to go over to SW Wisconsin to do some riding on some better hills.)

Also, I rode to and from the ride for an additional 8 miles and I had a quiet 13 mile ride with my daughter in the morning, so it was a 53 mile day.

Thanks for the props, Minn Man.

I had not ridden a hill of any size, but was able to finish the HHH with one day of local riding and some good strategy suggestions from a few HHH vets.

If your willing to take it slow, you can finish. My saddle time was 5 hours, 35 minutes for 72 miles.

Michael

Well yeah but not far, I started out and felt sort of weird and realized I forgotten my helmet. I thought to keep going but it looked like a storm was brewing so I decided to be safe and head back in.
Went for a drink and no water bottle, forgot that too, left it on the counter-top.
I am thinking it was some sort of sign that I should not ride without helmet or something. All told 5.25 miles.

Oh yeah it was 94° too.

Twas hot today but I commuted about 10 miles. got home and had an invite on the table to a Mexican restaurant tp meet the family. I had done overtime and they came home after I left so I got about 2.5 more miles today. I only run about ten a day four days per week. Recover one day and get maybe 25 to 50 miles on Saturday. Then I take Sunday off. Maybe I'll do a 15 to 20 miler on Friday and then 50 or more on Saturday this week. We'll see. Blues Frog

60 miles, warm, slight breeze. Went over Santa Fe Dam to Hwy 39 and back. Since i quit taking a radio i have been doing better on my rides. Lots of people out today, groups of teens on assorted bikes, from fixed gear to pink old style balloon cruisers to a few on road bikes.

I did and found you can ride almost as fast as Lance when thunder and lightning is chasing you. Several min. after getting home the rain god let it fly. Had to be almost an inch of rain.

50 miles this morning before the mid day sun. It was in the low 70's at the start and 82* when I pulled up the driveway. Forecast for tomorrow will be the same before the scorching 90's arrive for the weekend.

97°, 13-21 mph winds and 34% humidity let me go 28 miles with equal top speed of the month, go figure.( I think I had help with a tailwind though)

It is hot out there. Ride safe and smart.

44 miles this evening most of it doing 2 x 40 minute Z3 intervals of crit practice in a local cemetery. My wife even brought her road bike out and rode the course for 1 hour providing an obstacle for our group to race around.

Yesterday I rode my regular 17 mile RT commute. It hit 100F today and I took my cheater bike (cross bike with BIONX assist kit). That worked out very well since the trip home was into 15 - 20 mph headwinds with strong gusts that tried to pull the helmet off my head and pushed the bike around. I made it home without burning up in the heat.
Today I took my PedalForce carbon frame and, while hot, the humidity is lower and it was a pleasant commute to work.

30.9 miles 6/24 with my daughter
523.9 miles this month
3409 miles this year
108 ride days TY vs 110 ride days LY
4090 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
I am @ 45+% of goal. I need to be @ 66.6% (5000 miles) by the end of August
336 miles ahead of this date last year

Wild life count 88 Sand Hill Cranes. I have never see more than 6 or 8 on any ride before. I think we found the lake where they all nest at night.

Only 15 miles to the LBS, had a strange "lite crunching" sound coming from the rear wheel?? I guess I might have used a bit "too much" degreaser and some worked it's way into the hub, now it's all better. Humm, I don't even have a hose, I live in a one bedroom apt. and use a "bug or weed" jug with a "hand pump", can't see how that would have enough presser to get pass the seals for the hub or the cassette, oh well it's ready to ride for tomorrow!

38 miles in 91° heat with 57% humidity. It is amazing how just riding in the shade can feel so much cooler.

In preparation for my flight physical, I have upped my commute to 20 miles per day, 100 miles per week. Today, it felt perfectly natural even though temperatures have been close to 100.

35 miles with as many hills as I could find. I am proud of my improving hill climbing - you can get better, even at 70.5!!

Had to laugh at your post this morning. I thought I was the only one that lived in a one bed room apt. don't own a hose and use a 2 gallon bug and weed jug with a "hand pump" to wash my bike. I guess great minds think alike.

I rode the Little Park Loop today here in Grand Junction, Co. My legs were fried from 3 days in the car driving here. I suffered up the the east side of the Monument road in the sun but it was cool up top and through Glade Park. 25 miles and some good climbing.
